ONE LIFE TO LIVE THROUGH THE YEARS: 1990 - 1994

With it's legacy of romance and adventure, ONE LIFE TO LIVE has been captivating viewers for over 25 years. Here are some of the highlights.

1990

When Sarah Gordon journeyed to faraway Mendora, she assumed she was simply there on a mission to help that country's crown prince, Raymond, deal with his blindness. Sarah had no idea that she would become embroiled in a plot by the prince's brother, Roland, to seize the throne for himself. Against her will, Sarah, a commoner, was forced to marry Raymond, who would then be required to abdicate his throne. Sarah unwillingly went through with the wedding, but she was stunned upon seeing that the groom was actually her true love, Bo Buchanan, who donned a fake beard and took Prince Raymond's place at the altar!

Max nearly died when he took a bullet meant for his forbidden lover, Gabrielle. As Max hovered near death, Gabrielle made a pact with God that she would devote her life to the church if Max's life could be spared. When Max pulled through, Gabrielle resolved to live up to her end of the bargain and become a nun. She entered a convent, but Max defiantly climbed the convent wall and forced Gabrielle to admit that she still loved and needed him.

Gabrielle was devastated when Max was presumed dead in a fiery car accident. In actuality, Max's face was severely burned and disfigured by the crash. Ashamed by his appearance, Max continued to stay away from Gabrielle. Later, with a new face and a secret identity (Matt Kingsley), Max returned to woo his lady love.

Confined to a wheelchair after suffering a stroke, Viki stood by helplessly when mobster Johnny Dee broke into Llanfair, snatched Tina Roberts, and prepared to whisk her away to South America. Viki, incapacitated by her stroke, could do little to save Tina, but her schizophrenic alter-ego, Niki Smith could! Niki emerged, grabbed Johnny's gun, and shot him dead!

1991

Look up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Luna! When Tina hosted a tea party to welcome Sheila Price into the snobby Daughters of Llanview women's club, she never expected that an uninvited guest would arrive from the heavens above. However, that is exactly what happened when wacky goddess worshipper Luna Moody parachuted onto the front lawn of Llanfair and joined the party!

In a beautiful ceremony, Megan Gordon married the man of her dreams, Jake Harrison. Soon after, Jake took a high-paying but dangerous job in Japan. Days later, he disappeared from sight! It turned out that Jake was imprisoned by the evil General Gaza, the military chief of the war-torn Middle Eastern country, Jaba.

Cassie Callison, Dorian Lord's daughter, returned to Llanview and fell in love with Bo, but the romance was continually thwarted by a demented former government agent, Alex Olanov, who had fallen in love with Bo, too. Their rivalry reached new heights when Alex took Cassie out in a rowboat and tried to throw her overboard and drown her! Cassie married Bo, but moments after the wedding, Bo's not-so-late wife, Sarah, showed up at the reception. Sarah's surprising return was orchestrated by none other than Alex!

1992

The reign of crime king Carlo Hesser came to an abrupt end when a mysterious killer shot him to death in Max Holden's attic. Sarah was convicted of Carlo's murder, but she was released when Bo smoked out the real murderer who was revealed to be Carlo's teenage niece, Stephanie Hobart. She had killed her uncle when she discovered that he was responsible for the death of her father.

In a bitter custody battle, Lee Ann Demerest lost custody of her son, Duke, to the baby's father, Kevin Buchanan. Lee Ann's boyfriend, Jason Webb, kidnapped the baby and together they fled Llanview. After a frenzied month on the run, Jason was captured. Lee Ann remained on the lam, finally accepting Kevin's offer that if she brought Duke home, she could see him as much as she wanted. However, a double-crossing Kevin broke his promise and had Lee Ann arrested!

Megan, who suffered from lupus, took a turn for the worse. Viki risked her own life by giving her daughter a kidney, but to no avail. Reverend Andrew Carpenter, Megan's dear friend, journeyed to the Middle East to free Megan's husband, Jake, who returned to Llanview just in time for an emotional reunion with Megan before she died in his arms.

When Reverend Andrew Carpenter spurned the romantic advances of troubled young rich girl, Marty Saybrooke, she began to spread an ugly rumor that the minister had tried to seduce a gay teenage boy, Billy Douglas. Claiming a basic right to privacy, Andrew chose not to reveal his sexual preference. As a result, he became the target of a homophobic group, which called for him to be removed from the church. Andrew outraged his homophobic father, General Sloan Carpenter, by announcing that his late brother, William, was gay and had died of the AIDS virus. Andrew's job and reputation were spared when Billy Douglas came forth and admitted that the rumors were false. Andrew arranged for the AIDS quilt to be brought to Llanview and in an emotional climax, he managed to convince Sloan to make peace with William's memory.

1993

When the unscrupulous Alex Olanov sets her sights on a man, she stops at nothing to get him! Alex decided she wanted Cain Rogan, but he loved Tina Roberts. To get Tina out of the picture, Alex framed her for the attempted murder of Asa Buchanan. Wearing a Tina-like wig, Alex bashed Asa over the head with a sculpture. Just as Alex planned, Tina was arrested, but when Cain secretly taped Alex confessing the truth, Tina was set free.

For seven agonizing months, Bo Buchanan searched for the mysterious hit-and-run driver who ran his car off the road, killing his beloved wife, Sarah. Bo's new lover, Attorney Nora Gannon, helped him gather the clues, but began to have excruciating headaches, which led her to fear that she had driven the car that killed Bo's wife and blocked it out. Nora confided her secret to Bo who was convinced that she was not the culprit. Ultimately, a relieved Nora learned that she did not commit the crime, but witnessed it. Later, Nora discovered that she had a brain tumor, and the risky operation required to remove it might cause her to go blind. Without telling Bo, Nora went through with the surgery, then lost and later regained her sight.

Todd Manning and his fraternity buddies Zach and Powell raped Marty Saybrooke at their annual Spring Fling. Shocked by the horror of the incident, Marty accused Kevin Buchanan of the crime, but later recalled that Kevin was not among those who attacked her. In a sensational, headline-grabbing trial, Nora Gannon defended the young men, but as the trial went on, she came to realize that her clients were guilty. Nora shocked the court by turning against her clients, and a mistrial was declared.

Max Holden proposed to Luna Moody, who began to receive supernatural visits from the ghost of her late husband Bobby Ever, who urged Luna not to go through with the wedding. Scared by the visions, Luna left town and journeyed to a retreat to ponder her thoughts. Max rescued Luna from Bobby, convincing her that their love was strong enough to conquer anything -- even ghosts! At Serenity Springs, they married in a beautiful ceremony.
