I guess that one cannot really discuss Erika Slezak or her character Victoria without speaking of her alters at least once. When I refer to her alters I am of course talking about the 6 alternate personalities that are living inside Viki's mind. These alters have given us some extremely interesting storylines over the years.

As most One Life To Live viewers know, Viki's DID (Disociative Identity Disorder) was caused by years of sexual abuse that Vicki suffered at the hands of her father Victor Lord, Llanview's infamous newspaper Tycoon. For years Viki was tormented by an alternate personality who called her self Niki (Nicole) Smith. Niki was very reckless, trampy and crude, the complete opposite of Viki...

When Niki Smith first emerged it was because Viki was trying to please Victor and it took quite a toll on Viki. Niki took over and fell in love with Llanview's Vince Wolek, a garage machanic. Viki spent many years battling her alternate personality Niki.

Viki had been living for several years without Niki smith, but that all came to an end in January of 1995 when Viki finally learned the awful truth about her father and her mind split off into 6 personalities to help her cope with her pain.

It all started when Viki had just learned that David Vicker's was a fraud. He had pretended to be Viki's half brother in order to obtain a 27.8 million dollar trust fund. Since David had lied to Viki about being her brother she also suspected that the evidence that he bought forward that cleared Dorian from death-row was also a fake. In a rage Viki went to Dorian's house to confront her. They argued bitterly.

Viki repeatedly accuese Dorian of murdering her father but Dorian denied it. It was then that Dorian blurted out the truth to Viki. She told Viki that her father had sexually abused her when she was a child. At that point Viki's life changed forever. As she sat down on Dorian's couch, Viki left and a new personality took over. Viki suddenly became a young boy named "Tommy". As Dorian walked up the stairs "Tommy" came after her and threw her down the stairs.

Afterwards, Tommy sat down and another personality emerged, "Jean Randolph," the snappy dressing sophisticate. Jean quickly moved Dorian's body to her mountain cabin and chained her to the wall. When Dorian finally awoke she met Jean. Jean explained to Dorian that she emerged in order to help Vicki and that she would do whatever was nescesary to protect Victoria. Jean then sedated Dorian and moved her into Victor Lord's secret room, which Jean had rebuilt with several additions, room was sound proofed with a large Plexi-glass partition to keep Dorian from escaping.

Dorian feared that she would spend the rest of her life in that secret room. In order to free herself, Dorian made a deal with Jean that she would not say anything about the sexual abuse that Vicki had suffered. In exchange, Jean promised Dorian that she would see to it that Dorian was not retried for Victor Lords murder and put on death row again. Jean also promised that she would steal Irene Mannings forged diary from the police evidence room (which she later did with the help of Tommy). As more and more time went by Jean became increasingly weaker and unable to control the other alters. When Todd confronted Jean and told her that he was Victor Lords son, Niki Smith emerged.

Dorian soon had to deal with another alter. A 7 year old girl named "Princess". Dorian first met Princess at the cemetary when Princess was visiting her mothers grave. Princess was very frightened and disorientated. Dorian acted almost motherly towards her and she was able to bring Jean back. Jean lasted several more days until Jean had a confronation with Tina. This confrontation caused Nicki to emerge. Niki then went to the airport were she met Todd and bought him several drinks. After Todd left, Niki met a man at the bar. Nicki had several vodka's and agreed to go back to the mans hotel room. While Niki was in the room with this stranger, he began to become very agressive. Niki became frightened and Princess emerged. As Princess began to cry the man left the hotel room.

Dorian was able to locate Viki/princess and she bought her back to Llanfair. She proceeded to take Princess to the secret room so that no one would find them. Princess became more upset which caused Tommy to emerge. Dorian was able to lock Tommy in the secret room and go back to her house. As Dorian was about to go back to Llanfair, she opened her door and Tommy was standing there. Dorian bought Tommy into her house and gave him a Ginger Ale with a powerful sedative in it. Jean then emerged and Dorian encouraged her to seek therapy. Jean turned her back and suddenly another personality emerged. This time a cheerful woman named "Tori" took over for Jean. Tori explained to Dorian that she wanted to expose the secret of Victor's abuse.

Although Tori seemed harmless at first we all soon learned that she was very unstable. She tried to sabotage the banner by destroying the printing press and giving secret information to Todd. Tori eventually burned down Llanfair. On the day of Bo and Nora's wedding, Tori pretended to have a fever so that she could stay home. When everyone was out of the house, Tori poured gasoline onto the furniture in the secret room and torched it. What Tori was not aware of however, was the fact that Jessica had come home after a fight with Clint and was still in the house. Tori went upstairs to the master bedroom and torched it. She then lit the rest of the house on fire and went outside to watch it burn.

Jessica began to scream for help. Tori decided to leave her in the house but Viki overpowered her and emerged to save her daughter. Viki went into the house and bought Jessica downstairs. Viki was then hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Tori lied to Clint and sent him to Atlanta to follow up on a lead that Tori had made up. With Clint out of the way, Tori went back to the ruins of Llanfair and she started to fall apart. She told her children that she wanted to destroy Llanfair and the Lord family.

She hit Kevin over the head with a vase and went to Dorians house. She demanded that Dorian help her find an arsonist to burn down the Banner. Clint returned and walked in on Tori as she was about to torch the Banner. Clint told her that he knew what was going on and that she was not Viki. When Andy and Kevin arrived Tori pulled out a gun. She confessed everything to Clint, Andy and Kevin. She was able to escape from the building but she was followed by Clint. Tori bought Clint to Victor Lords mosoleum and told him the truth about Victor's sexual abuse and all of the other alters. Tori knocked CLint out just as Dorian arrived. As Tori was about to shoot Dorian, she was sedated. Dorian thought she was safe until Tommy emerged holding the gun. Tommy left the mosoleum and proceeded to a small store were he was arrested for shop lifting. Clint finally found Tommy at the jail and he was able to bring Jean out. Jean explained to Clint that she had to protect Viki. After speaking with Jean, Clint was finally able to get Viki to emerge. Clint told her about her other personalities as Vicki listened in horror. Clint and Bo took Viki to Llanview hospital were she was reunited with her children.

Shortly after Viki's hospitalization, Viki met Nora's sister, Susanah Hannen... Dr. Hannen was an expert on DID and she promised to help Viki with her battle. Viki began therapy sessions with Dr. Hannen and she eventually came to trust her. During one of her therapy sessions, Niki Smith emerged and escaped from the hospital. She met Joey in Rodies bar and took him to Atlantic City. Dr. Hannen and Clint tracked her down and bought Jean out and persuaded her to come back to the hospital. During another therapy session, Tori emerged and attempted to tell Viki the truth about her father by writing her a note. As Viki was about to read the note, an angry Tommy emerged and ripped it up. Tommy tried to attack Dr. Hannen and it was decided that Viki would be better off in a hospital in Switzerland (Erika's vacation I assume).

After her return Viki began to have visions about a womans hands pressing a pillow down over her fathers face. In therapy Tori came out and confessed everything to Dr. Hannen...She killed Victor Lord. Viki was horrified over this revelation but she quikly confessed her crimes to Hank Gannon becase Dorian had been arrested again. Viki was once again commited to Llanview hospital while she awaited a sanity hearing.

With Nora as her attorney, she was able to persuade Judge Fitzwater that she was stable enough not to be confined. Clint offered to be Viki's guardian and take full responsibility for her. Viki later went to Victor's mosoleum and she told her father that she was leaving all of the pain that he had caused her behind. She then heard tha voices of her alters and she assured them that they would always be a part of her and that she was greatful to them for trying to protect her. Viki then returned to the Banner....
