Heroes of Steel
This box set was pretty interesting. The adventure was well made but
almost useless to me, for my players had read the book "Dawning of a New Age"
that the adventure was based on. The character roles were pretty good. Not a
wide variety of roles though. Another good thing was the Improvised weapons.
They can add allot to a bar fight. I'm still trying to convince my characters
not to go to swords first. All in all it I was disappointed with the
addition. I'm still looking for details from the dragon-ruled areas of the
contents. Like government and other stuff.
Heroes of Defiance
Well this box set was not at all what I expected. It was a big
disappointment. The character kits were practically useless, the only good
one was the Quilentesti Rebel. The other material wasn't put together as well
as HEROES OF STEEL was. The information on Northern Ergoth, was not very
useful for my campaign, but it may help someone else. The adventure was also
a useless to me sense most party members had already read "The Day of the
Temptest" in which it was based of off. After reading through it I found I
didn't care for it anyway. I found that the False Demeanor, and Role section
was also useless. The description on back of the box was the most impressive
thing in the box, but I haven't yet seen where half that stuff is.
HOWEVER, this box set has accomplished one thing. It gave me allot of ideas
to move my campaign along. The Hero Secrets were also a good touch and have
added depth to some of my players.
"Dawning of a New Age" by Jean Rabe
The book was really good. It follows in Weis & Hickman's footsteps. It had to
spend allot on the history of Fifth Age to get the reader up to date. I am
looking forward to the next book. "Day of the Temptest". The characters are
creative, and unique. Jean does a great job with descriptions.
"Day of the Temptest" by Jean Rabe
This book was a great sequel to "The Dawning of a New Age" It ranked up there
with the Original Dragonlance Chronicles. The descriptions are awsome, and
the plot twists add so much to the book. I personally love books you can't
predict the ending to. It's a wonderful book, and can't wait for the third
instalment of the series.
"The Eve of the Maelstrom" by Jean Rabe
This exciting conclusion to the "Dragon’s of a New Age" trilogy was all what it was made out to be and more. The book has everything, non-stop adventure and romance, a well developed story-line and some twists and turns you didn't suspect, as well as some you did. The character’s came alive with hatred, love, and fears, to make them well rounded, and true to life. I do have to say however the end left you wanting more and seemed kind of rushed. I can’t wait for Jean Rabe to return back to the world of Krynn and writ another trilogy or two.
