Recommended Music For
Furthur Mind Exploration:

The Grateful Dead- The legendary psychedelic/folk band. This band was started in 1965 and lasted up until 1995, when it's lead singer and guitarist Jerry Garcia tragically died. This band left behind a legacy of memorable music, and a whole vault worth of concert material. Even today, many "Deadheads" around the world trade Grateful Dead bootlegs. There are some key members of this rock and roll band. They are: Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzman, Mickey Hart, and a host of keyboardists. Recommended album: Anthem of the Sun. For more info, check   the link below.

Quicksilver Messenger Service- This band was one of the original psychedelic acts at the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom. Their music is extremely cool and very good listening. Many consider this band to have the true psychedelic sound of the Haight-Ashbury era. I should be getting a link for this band soon.

The Doors- This band created music that revolutionized the way people listen to poetry. The lead singer, Jim Morrison combined soul-seaching poetry, with incredible rock and roll music, to create a psychedelic sound that has yet to be equaled. Recommended album: LA Woman.

Jefferson Airplane- One of the original acts of the psychedelic 60's, this band played music that is still known everywhere. This band split into two bands known as Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Recommended album: Surrealistic Pillow.

Iron Butterfly- This band scored big on the psychedelic charts with the 17 minute title cut of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. This song is by far one of the coolest psychedelic songs ever. It includes guitar jams, keyboard jams, and a 3 minute percussion jam!!! The album Heavy is also very good. Recommended album: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. For more info, check out the link below!

The Beatles- Now many of you must be saying,"Wait a second, didn't this group sing She Loves You. That's supposed to be psychedelic?" Well, this band is probably known as one of the finest bands ever by mostly everyone, but their later stuff is extremely psychedelic and helped pave the road for psychedelic pop bands. The album Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, was very much a part of The Summer of Love. Recommended albums: Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and The Magical Mystery Tour. For more info, checkout the link below!

Status Quo- This still obscure psychedelic pop band, released one of thefinest psychedelic songs to date; Pictures of Matchstick Men. This heavily druggedsong, makes you feel the psychedelic era like no song could. Recommended album:Picturesque Matchstickable.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience- The greatest guitarist in the world! Enough said! Recommended album: Are You Experienced?

Big Brother and the Holding Company- This psychedelic band is legendary for its lead singer; Janis Joplin. Janis Joplin was the real hit of this band, and her vocal styles are still being emulated today!

Pink Floyd- A personal favorite of mine, this band has been around for over 30 years of music. There are 3 key people in this band, who have come and gone over the years. The first is Syd Barrett. Syd Barrett was a psychedelic music genius who was driven to madness. His legendary album was Pink Floyds first album. The second key musician is Roger Waters. Roger Waters is most famous for his contributions to the legendary rock classics,The Wall and Wish You We're Here. The third, is David Gilmour who is famous for the album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Recommended albums: The Wall and WishYouWe're Here.

PHISH- Claiming the adherents of the Grateful Dead among other touring bands, Phish has generated an impressive fan following on their international tours. Led by Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon and Page McConnel, these four musicians have entertained audiences with a unique fusion of jazz, psychedelia, and extended jams. Recommended album: A Live One.

The Byrds- The Byrds recorded what is known as probably the first solid psychedelic album of the 60's. Recorded in 1966, the album 5D was apsychedelic masterpiece. The song "Eight Miles High" was banned before hitting number one on the charts, because people thought it would turn too many people onto drugs. Recommendedalbum: 5D.

Captain Beefheart- This band is one of the most disturbing, and intriguing bands ever. They produced one of the most insane and classic albums of the rock era;Trout Mask Replica. Recommended album: Trout Mask Replica.

Donovan- Donovan helped popularize psychedelic music. Some of his most noteworthyalbums are A Gift From a Flower to a Garden, The Hurdy Gurdy Man, and Sunshine Superman. Recommended album: Sunshine Superman.

The Deep- The Deep is known as a psychedelic band for one landmark psychedelic album; Psychedelic Moods: A Mind Expanding Phenomena by the Deep. This album is a psychedelic classic that stood as an outline for psychedelic albums to come. Recommended album: Psychedelic Moods: A Mind Expanding Phenomena by the Deep.

Country Joe and The Fish- Country Joe and The Fish, were one of the finest bands to come out of the psychedelic era of the 60's. This band was an important part of the Woodstock experience, and had many classic albums. Recommended album: Electric Music for the Mind and the Body.

The Incredible String Band- One of the greatest acid-folk groups of the 60's, ISB originated a perfect blend of folk with psychedelicism added inbetween. Recommended albums: The 5,000 Spirits Of The Layers Of The Onion, and The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention- It was a hard decision on whether to include Frank Zappa on my psychedelic music list. After all he is not psychedelic, or is he? That is the mystery!!! Anyhow, that is for you todecide, but in any case the Mothers is one of the most inventive and creative bandsaround! And Frank Zappa sure as hell does a good job as the main vocalist, guitarist, and producer. Recommended albums: We're Only In It For The Money, and FreakOut!!!

Cream- Definitely a great psychedelic band, with one of the greatest guitarists in all of the world, Eric Clapton. Recommended album: Disraeli Gears.

The Steve Miller Band- The Steve Miller Band, played at the famous psychedelic places, The Fillmore and The
Avalon Ballroom. Their jam style was unique and in a way psychedelic bluesy pop. They had many hits, and continued to have many through the 70's with the hitsong Fly Like An Eagle, and the 80's. They still fly through the 90's as fastas ever!
