NOTE:
We've searched for Sarah's maiden name for years. The Bible
page
and tombstone provide the answer. Sarah is on her tombstone,
so Sally was a nickname.

Contributors of early research
The Bible Page, envelope, George Right Hoodenpyl family &
tombstone pictures
contributed by Carolyn Carr Zimmerman. Carolyn has also contributed
additional,
unbelievable items which are included on other Hoodenpyl pages. She's
descended
through Thomas Jefferson Hoodenpyl, Jr. and his son George Right
Hoodenpyl.
Herschell Whitlock Hoodenpyl and his daughter Terry Hoodenpyl
Dana have
contributed much on the John Whitlock Hoodenpyl family which can be seen
on the John Whitlock Hoodenpyl link.
Ernie Roark shared the pic's of Thomas Jefferson Hoodenpyl, Sr. &
family.
What a marvelous contribution!
Simple words are inadequate to express our thanks to all of you
for sharing with our
cousins, but you surely know the joy these documents and pictures bring to
our lives.

"Grandma Susan (Susan Madora McEntire) was part Cherokee and
a midwife. Her mother, Caroline
Powell, was also
a midwife and drove a horse
and buggy. One day she (Caroline) was coming down the mountain road
we call
the 'W.' (The 'W' is in Hamilton Co. on the side of
Signal Mountain.) Something
stepped out of the woods, the horse spooked and she and
horse went off a cliff.
Both were killed."

NOTE: The following note of family interest from Nevin P. Carr Feb. 22,
2000:
"I recall seeing that Coat of Arms around the George Hoodenpyl place
many
years ago, and have a copy of it. Same one, no doubt about it. That
would
probably have come down through T. J. Hoodenpyl...
There was also a family story about a signet ring which was lost when
the
T. J. Hoodenpyl home burned...Uncle 'Bud' Hoodenpyl made tongue and
groove cherry boards for the inside of that house and he also made
furniture. The only piece of his that I know of still in existence
is a large
cherry dresser now owned by...(son of Jewel)...
(There was) an old flint rifle said to have come down through the
family, probably through T. J. I have the shot pouch and powder horn
that went with it and was supposed to have been his fathers (Phillip G.)
The name of the rifle was "Stinging Bee."
The site of the house that burned is close to the Hoodenpyl Cemetery.
There is also an old log house near there that was in the family, but it
is covered with siding now and not apparently a log house. It is
vacant
and will probably fall to ruin...."
