From a "Questioning User" (QU12) followup to "The Earth Divided"--

>QU12> Richard, the word Pangea is used by modern geologists to describe the theoretical single continent that existed in Earth's prehistory. The geologists who put forward the theory originally made up the word from greek.
The German (not geologist, but) meteorologist/astronomer credited with the first use of "Pangæa" in RECENT history was Alfred Wegener who in 1912 put forth a theory of continents in motion, and in 1922 published his third edition of "The Origins Of Continents And Oceans", and referred to the supercontinent as Pangæa. The word was in use very much before that time though. The earliest reference to the idea of continental separation in RECENT history is about 1620AD. The oldest ancient historical reference was written around 1500 BC.
Wegener had maps matching up the continents, showing the Appalachians ajoining the mountains of Scotland and documenting glacial and lava regions, climate changes and polar wandering, etc. His ideas were attacked by establishment "scientists" for about 15 years and his ideas discarded until the early 1960's when deep core drilling and other discoveries revived interest in the theory of continental drift. The "Unified Theory of Plate Tectonics" is the current view, although most establishment "scientists" still use the archaic, outdated, disproven evolutionary theory dating methods for a time reference, instead of the true chronology of the splitting of "ALL THE EARTH," when the earth was DIVIDED in the days of Peleg.
