I'm Richard. Welcome to my home page. It's become apparent that this thing will always be under flux. Recent additions include an index page for those who would rather surf the pictures than read the words. Later I will be installing a page about the Houston International Festival Orange Show Art Car Ball and Roadside Attractions: The Artists' Parade, and perhaps a page extolling the virtues of Houston itself. I'm also mulling over a page listing the best popular recordings in history... well, in the last 30 years or so anyway. Stay tuned.
So let's get that all-important basic info out of the way. I am a native Houstonian, single, and an ardent Texan. I'm your classic struggling writer who has to have a day job to support himself. My current position is as a government drone on the county level.
I run three miles three times a week most weeks. I enjoy watching baseball and basketball. I read a lot; some of my favorite authors are Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Hunter S. Thompson, Thomas Pynchon, Molly Ivins, Linda Ellerbee, and P.J. O'Rourke. I am an itinerant fiction/essay writer and sometimes I flatter myself that I have been influenced by those authors.
Some of the things that interest and/or define me are the creative process, dragons, the power of laughter, the intricacies of social interaction, bluebonnets, music of all kinds, the Holy Grail, philosophical ramifications of the possibility of Texas' seccesion from the Union, ESP, Dr Pepper, Mexican food and chicken fried steak. I'm interested in just about everything, but these days if you want to hear me talk ask me about my trip to China
But enough about me and the things I dig. What about you? What do you think about things? What do you think about anything? Do you miss Calvin more than Hobbes? Do you like baseball more than football, except for the actual shapes of the balls? Are you as goofy now as you ever were? What song do you want played when you take, you know, That Last Big Dirt Bath? Why? The greatest cookie of all time, Chips Ahoy or Fig Newtons or Oreos, you decide. Do you speak Esperanto? Why? Are millions of people off their rockers? If so, what about those pockets of sanity that include you and me? What was the last thing you learned? Are you sometimes baffled, but it's okay? How the heck are ya? Let me know by sending mail via this amazing blue hyperlink gizmo.
