Alan and Mary's story

Alan and Mary met at the church youth group in high school!  They actualy went to the prom together when Mary was a junior and Alan was a sophomore!  Check out this pic!  (Alan claims that the kids will laugh at Mary's 'do, but Mary says they'll be too busy laughing at Daddy with hair!)

Alan and Mary went their separate ways after that school year, only to meet up again at the singles group at the same church 5 years later.  They got engaged seven and a half months later, and on May 1, 1993 they were married.

David's Story

    A month and a half after the wedding, Alan and Mary were thrilled to learn that they were expecting a child in February.  It was a typical pregnancy until 27 weeks, when Mary discovered that the bad low backache she had been having the past few days was preterm labor.  Mary was placed on bedrest, and spent two separate weeks in the hospital before David Alan Searcy was born on December 23, 1993, 8 weeks premature.  He weighed 3 pounds 13 ounces and was 17" long.

David spent 29 days in the hospital before coming home weighing 4 pounds 14 ounces and 18 inches long.  During this time, he went under the bili lights for jaundice, had reflux, and had episodes of bradycardia, where his heart rate would slow.  Overall, Mary and Alan feel they were pretty lucky to have a relatively healthy preemie.

Katherine's Story

Mary and Alan knew they wanted another child, and on July 9, 1996, Katherine Ann Searcy joined the family, full term and healthy, after a high risk pregnancy that included weeks of restricted activity and bedrest.
