Troubleshooting and Help

Password Won't Unlock File

In FileLock v2.03 and older, although it is not mentioned in the ReadMe file, passwords are case sensitive. If you're sure you're using the right password, but still receive an "Incorrect Password" message, try using simple variations of the password such as putting a capital letter for the first character, using all capitals, using all small letters, etc. Even if you use the same password every time, some people do enter incorrect characters (typos) when locking a file. Please check your password before locking a file to make sure it is what you want it to be.

Locked Application Doesn't Auto-Launch After Unlocking It

This was a problem with FileLock v2.03 and older. This should be fixed in v2.1, but if it's still happening, please let me know. If it does happen, it shouldn't cause any problems other than the application not launching automatically.

I Received the Error: File is Locked or in use and can't be changed

This means the file is locked from the Finder. In the Finder, click on the file once to highlight it. Then select the Get Info menu and uncheck the Locked checkbox. You should now be able to lock or unlock the file with FileLock.

I Received the Error: File is too large to be locked

FileLock can only password protect files that are 15Mb or less in size.

I Need a Version That Runs on 68k Macs

You can still download FileLock v2.03 which runs fine on any Mac. I'm keeping it available for 68k Mac users since the latest version only runs on PPC Macs.

Other Problems

If you experience any problems, please report it by filling out the form on my Tech Support page or you can E-mail me at AlStaff@aol.com and be as specific as possible about what happened, what Mac you're using, what type of file you were locking, etc.

You should always keep an unlocked copy of any important file on another disk in case any problems do occur such as forgetting your password!
