Editor,
Foreign Roman Catholic Vatican officials in Italy claim they have the resources, personnel, and persistence to eventually have their way in the United States of America. They believe the foreign Vatican should play a big role in running our country. The Vatican wants to outlaw all legal abortions in the U.S. though none of the many nations which they dominate have done so.
The Vatican persists in opposing all methods of preventing pregnancies except their own approved method of people having intercourse with minimal chance of pregnancy. The Vatican had not launched any war to outlaw contraceptives and victimize women; but, now they have.
One of the Vatican's lead men in our Congress is Sen. Robert C. Smith, who does their bidding.
Sen. Smith led members of the Senate COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS in proposing a constitutional amendment (S.J.Res.49, 105th Congress, 2d Session) to make citizenship begin in a fertilized egg. Under this amendment, according to John M. Swomley, professor emeritus of social ethics at St. Paul School of Theology, "...a woman who prevented an early pregnancy or who had a self-inflicted abortion would be guilty of murdering a person and in death penalty states could be executed." The Vatican, and, thereby, Sen. Smith believe birth control pills murder babies.
The idea that abortion is murder, and women who have abortions are murderers is not news to members of the Vatican hierarchy. Many parishioners easily talk and write in these terms as though they were extolling a religious truth. Persons who have terrorized, killed and wounded Planned Parenthood staff members justified their deeds by claiming those attacked were murdering the innocent unborn.
Wonder what Americans think of this proposed constitutional amendment and of the
foreigners in the Vatican who persist in wanting to run our country.
