Dear Senator Grant,
Enclosed is a copy of my letter to Frank Fuchs, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Revenue, about a tax exemption for the Graham Crusade. I had sought tax exemptions for two religious organizations in Florida but was advised by the Department of Revenue that these did not meet their requirement of "meeting regularly". I was told "meeting regularly" for religious organizations meant meeting each week. One organization represented religious congregations throughout Florida which provided at least six one day meetings, a two day meeting, and a three day meeting annually for members of these congregations which required considerable time to plan and conduct. A second organization represented as many as ten religious congregations in Northeast Florida which provided at least three one day meetings and one three day meeting annually for members of these congregations. I understood the Graham Crusade didn't meet as often as the organizations I just cited. I very much would appreciate knowing what "...additional information regarding the organization's operations and the holding of regularly scheduled religious services.." Frank Fuchs received by which he determined that the Crusade did in fact meet the Department's requirements. I also would appreciate knowing what legislation you sponsored concerning this issue which did not pass. Thank you for following up on Mr. Fuch's letter to me. If I can provide you with any further information about my concerns, please let me know. Sincerely, James M. O'Hara PC: Frank Fuchs
