Transportation and MIS Logistics

Transportation and MIS Logistics

In order for automated facilities to fit into a global and integrated supply chain, they must be a part of the seamless enterprise evolution. In the last few years, I have researched many MIS solutions abilities to fit into this global view. Basically, when a consumer needs or wants a product with a particular quality and price range, it should be there. To meet that expected requirement requires logistics that can stretch across the entire enterprise and globally. Support for the complex, varied and sometimes very distant interrelationships tasks requires software applications that must be integrated.

The analysis of the various MIS logistics support packages included:

 Breadth of seamless solutions
M
ust cover the basics: accounting, human resources, workflow management, ALE, and links to the internet.

 Performance
M
ust have high performance across many areas and in updating database accuracy.

 Tailor made
M
ust be able to be tailored to the need of the particular firm and support its strategic plan. Should be easily integrated with other necessary software packages that may fill a particular unique need. Should be a standalone solution and/or be seamlessly integrated with other features.

 Integrated data management
A
pplications must remain integrated with the rest of the system. Local task executions must be immediately received and addressed by the system. The balance of central data is a key in eliminating redundancy while maintaining integrity.

 Network data
Must be able to access from any location for business efficiency.

 Service
M
ust have support services globally.

 International capability
M
ust be able to deal in different languages, currencies and legal areas.

 Open system
M
ust be able to install and operate over a wide range of hardware platforms using the latest operating systems. Basically, it should be an open system, client/server environment. It should have multi-tiered client/server capability.

 The Requirements

The above requirements are strenuous and require a knowledgeable and dependable supplier whose reputation and capabilities are beyond reproach. In the search for a logistics MIS support package, we discovered SAP R/2 and then R/3. We like the R/3 solution because it fit our needs and plans for developing global automated facilities.

Across the spectrum of procurement to production and from sales to delivery, the R/3 logistics packages provided integrated processes. This package offers the strategic solution to managing the supply chain and improving competitiveness in becoming seamless.

The functionality in the processes of the supply chain:

I endorse SAP's R/3 logistics applications as the solution in providing a fast-moving, adaptable logistics system for the procurement, manufacturing, sales, and distribution of goods and services.

It offers companies of all sizes market-leading solutions that improve productivity and quality while reducing costs and time to market.

The key in practical terms is that facilities scheduling, production planning decisions, sales forecasts and service projections can all be based on one consistent set of date, moment to moment.

While the core areas of sales and distribution, materials management and production form a foundation of the integrated system, you can expand and augment these capabilities by continuously increasing functionality according to the exact needs of your organization with the flexibility of adapting the system to changes in your market (an extremely important feature!).
