Food that does something while cooking - other than brown or shrink - fascinates me. Ever try scrambled eggs in the microwave? They almost triple in volume - they also explode if overdone, so watch carefully.
In More Hints I mentioned the Bisquik "Impossible Pies" (they make their own crust) collection. If a pie can make it's own crust, why not trust a recipe promising a cake that makes its own sauce?
I discovered it during a severe bout of chocoholism. (Go to Why Chocolate is Better than Sex - use back button for the O.D. list.)
Hot Fudge Cake and Sauce
Mix one cup self-rising flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tbls. cocoa; stir in 1/2 cup milk, 2 tbls. cooking oil and 1 tsp. vanilla until smooth. Spread in ungreased 9-inch baking pan. Add 4 tbls. cocoa to 1 cup brown sugar. Don't work too hard, the cocoa sort of dusts the sugar - sprinkle the "rocks" over batter. Pour 1 and 3/4 cups hot water over all - do not stir. Yes, it is supposed to look like you used too much water. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. When a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean it's done with the ooeyest, gooeyest sauce hiding at the bottom screaming for ice cream.
