Altcar
is an ancient settlement, which is recorded in the Doomsday Book. There=
has
been a priest at Altcar since at least 1240, but the earliest record of=
a
church building is in a lease dated 1429. There have been several build=
ings
on the present site, the current one being built in 1879. St. Michael's=
is
one of the finest "Arts and Crafts" churches in the country.<=
