WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL PATTY DUKE NEWSLETTER #2!!!

"From a very early age I sensed that there was something wrong with me, and it wasn't until the age of thirty-five that I found out what was wrong and got help." -Patty Duke

Hi, everyone and welcome to the second "Official Patty Duke Newsletter"! I have gotten some wonderful responses about my newsletter and about the proposed plans for the "Patty Duke" reunion show, and thank you all who emailed me their comments to send to the executive producer of the show, Jim Green. He really enjoyed reading them and liked all of your insights on what should happen to "Patty" and "Cathy" in the '90's. In this issue Jim has sent me yet even more inside information on what will happen on the show and he wishes I would share it with all of you, which ofcourse I will most happily do! So again, here are some more of the proposed plans written to Anna and myself about those identical cousins! (Note: Again, if you would like to send comments for Jim Green please email me and I will foward your mail to him. Thanks:-)

From Jim Green, executive of the "Patty Duke" Reunion Show!

We got permission to go to story/outline today. We needed to solve some of the CBS notes that would define the series and we did. So they are very pleased and also very much into this as a pilot as well as a 2 hour. This is rough strokes but the big beats are there:

We had a great meeting with Eddie Applegate. He is still very young looking for his age. He hasn't been working as an actor, but he is still very much Richard and loves the idea of being married to you right after school. You had a son. The marriage didn't work out and so you got a divorce. But you are still very much in each other's lives and Richard is still defending you and is as good a friend as anybody can have. He'd still like to be married to you. You have a grandaughter.

Cathy is a widow. And her son is an identical cousin to Patty's son. We will not see him much and he will appear when we need him (like Bill Shallert's twin showed up from time to time in a kilt). Cathy has a grandson and that (finally, thank god) breaks the chain of identicalness at least gender wise! We haven't decided yet if Daniel Trevante will be Cathy's love interest as we flashback to the old days. That will work itself out as Neal writes the outline.

The way the grandkids work is that Cathy's son has always wanted to come to the US. He's obsessed with it. He has a similar personality to Patty. Cathy decides to bring him and give Patty a surprise bd party. The grandson wouldn't miss it. He will always try just a little to hard to speak American slang in order fit in and will always mix up the lingo. He'll start his own language probably....

Patty's cause is saving the school and she will drive everybody crazy in City hall which just wants to make her go away. The building inspector has condemned the building and all the help Patty can muster seems to be letting her down. It's a lost cause. The more she tries the worse things seem to get. She finally gets the attention of mayor Giulani who says he'll look into it. Then Cathy supercedes and it turns out the school is to be relocated in its entirety instead of splitting everybody up which made Patty the most upset. Patty is somehow taken there for the surprise. Everybody has showed up of course providing that "ahh" we are looking for and we usher out the old and bring in the new and celebrate the togetherness and the new exciting location as the end of the show. Neal wants to make it an abandoned boat/barge that Giulani gets at the last minute and ties it up to a dock near the river in Brooklyn Heights. Neal says he knows how to write it and I said I need to figure out how to produce it. But I said write it and I'll figure something out. If it's funny and really different then we have a very unique series pilot. I'm figuring we can build all the interiors like on the Love Boat.

CBS loves this twist and sees the potential in the characters. Patty and Cathy with two fourteen year old kids a boy (who will look amazingly like Leonardo Dicaprio so we can do scenes from the Titanic) and a girl who will always be bailing him out. Patty's grandaughter is amazingly like Cathy with Cathy's personality and Cathy's grandson is strikingly like Patty's personality. Of course they have to be together and will all move into the house with Great Grandma and Grandpa. Patty's son and daughter in-law are journalists just like Grandpa and are always on assignment. They live nearby but their daughter would rather stay with Grandma anyway especially since Cathy and her son are there too. Cathy decides to stay for awhile as her son gets his wish to live in America and enroll in the same school as his mom. The place ain't the same, but the spirit goes with them. And a new generation of Patty and Cathy is launched. We'll see how this all plays in the outline, but I think we are off to a good start.

Jacqueline Susann / Paperback / Published 1997
Our Price: $9.60 ~ You Save: $2.40 (20%)
Synopsis:
Sex and drugs and shlock and more--Jacqueline Susann's addictively
entertaining trash classic about three showbiz girls clawing their way
to the top and hitting bottom in New York City has it all. Though it's
inspired by Susann's experience as a mid-century Broadway starlet who
came heartbreakingly close to making it, but did not, and despite its
reputation as THE roman á clef of the go-go 1960s, the novel turned out
to be weirdly predictive of 1990s post-punk, post-feminist, post "riot
grrrl" culture. Jackie Susann may not be a writer for the ages,
but--alas!--she's still a writer for our times. Note: Anna, Sharon Tate and Barbara Parkins (whom all starred in the film version) are all featured on the cover of this reprinted version of the 1966 novel.
