I was just at the mall and when I went into Suncoast Video, they had a list of upcoming video release dates and now HOPE FLOATS is due out on video October 20th (instead of November 18th like I was told before)! Isn't that great? Yipeeee! Oh and you can reserve a copy and save $5 when you buy if from Suncoast Video! :o) AND DON'T FORGET, LOL, YOU HEARD IF FROM ME FIRST! :o)

***South Africa and Sandy Club***

Two tidbits today! 1. It seems like Hope Floats is about to open in South Africa. (Thanks to Cyd for the info - and an article about it's opening there will appear on my article page soon)! And 2. ***Lotsa Stuff/News To Say***
(I am not going to put up lotsa of subtitles for all this stuff cuz it is just too much trouble, lol.)

According to Cyd (I feel so dumb for not thinking of this myself, forgive me Sandy lol)! Uh-oh! It seems like Sandra, Ben and the rest of the bunch could encounter some real Forces of Nature as Hurricane Bonnie is set to move up the Southeast coast from Florida to North Carolina. Let's hope everyone in it's way are safe. Let's all pray for them, ok? (I know that isn't HOPE FLOATS related but everyone in the path of that storm needs a prayer!)

On September 6, Sandra will be awarded the Montreal World Film Festival Award for Career Excellence. This article appeared in the Arts section of the August 18 New York Times about Sandy winning this award:

Who Needs Critics?
She may be in a professional slump, but Sandra Bullock is still on top
in Canada. The Montreal World Film Festival has announced that the
actress will receive a career excellence award at the festival on Sept.
6. Ms. Bullock, who received lukewarm reviews this summer for "Hope
Floats", was chosen because "she's quite a popular actress here," said
Lorraine Jamison, a spokeswoman for the festival. She added, "She is
somebody that the people of Montreal would like to meet." The festival,
which will also include a tribute to the Swedish director Ingmar
Bergman, runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7.

***Video Release***

As I reported before, the DVD of HOPE FLOATS is due out November 18, 1998. I have just learned from my friend Sky's site (Check it out! She just updated it and it is GREAT! The Sandra Bullock Monthly) that the video will also be out on that day too! But now there is a conflict cuz my friend Cyd says that The DVD Factor reports the video will be out on Oct. 20, 1998! Let's pray it comes out on the sooner date! Yipee! Mark your calendars for both, LOL, everyone!!! :)

***Charlie Rose***

The Charlie Rose show (on PBS; check your local listings to be sure of the station and time) will be reairing their episode with Sandra Bullock and Forest Whitaker either today or this weekend! It just depends on where you live! You really gotta see it cuz I heard it was GREAT! Thanks to my friend Sky for the info.

***Sandra Graces Many Magazine Covers***

Sandra currently graces many magazine covers. She is on the July/Aug. issue of JEZEBEL (a magazine devoted to "Southern Urban Style." In which she talks about HOPE FLOATS in the article and many of the pictures in the magazine are from HOPE FLOATS too; thanks to my friend Tony for the info), IMAGE PREVIEW (a free Laserdisc and DVD magazine that says that the Laserdisc (or is it DVD?) for HOPE FLOATS will be out on November 18th. That probably means it'll be out on video to rent on the 17th. Anyway, you can get this free magazine at Suncoast Video stores, thanks to my friend Cyd for the info, and the cover of it is the poster for HOPE FLOATS btw), and lastly she and Nicole Kidman (this isn't really HOPE FLOATS related, sorry) are on the cover of the new ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY which is set to hit newstands today (Friday) or Monday (I heard this on ET last night) (the issue is on Fall's upcoming films and Sandra's next one is with Nicole Kidman in PRACTICAL MAGIC! It is gonna be GREAT)! That's it! :) go buy them (or go take one at Suncoast Video) TODAY! :)

***In The New EW Magazine***

In the new ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY magazine (August 14, 1998 issue), some person, with a bug up their butt I guess, wrote this in regards to the article in the previous EW talking about the Tin Tote Sandy carried around in HOPE FLOATS:

Wanted to let you know that Sandra Bullock's Tin Tote in HOPE FLOATS was hardly original. I bought the exact purse for my wife four years ago. I guess life imitates construction in this case, not art.

***Lip Synching Song***

Another update on songs that are missing from the soundtrack; many of you have inquired about the lip synching song and my friend Tony told everyone on the Sandra List this: "'Can't Get Next to You' (the lip synching song in HOPE FLOATS) was from The Temptations' "Puzzle People" album of about 30 years ago. Probably available on CD reissue or Temptations Greatest Hits." Thanks Tony for the info! I "hope" that helped solve some mysteries! :)

***Soundtrack Info***

Many people have emailed me and asked, "What was that song they played in the drive-in scene in HOPE FLOATS?" Well, one of my very devoted fans of my site (Erin Gahagan: egahagan@juno.com) has told me that it is called "Back When We Were Beautiful" by Matraca Berg, and that it's on her CD called "Sunday Morning to Saturday Night". So here is your answer everyone! And thanks Erin! You were quite helpful!

I got a letter today from Mae Whitman's dad (you know, she played Sandy's daughter Bernice in HOPE FLOATS and DUH! Her picture is at the top of this page! Hello! LOL!) and he wanted me to thank everyone who sent me those messages for Mae's birthday that I sent to her in the birthday book I made for her at the beginning of June! And he said that Mae is just enjoying being a kid now and he thanks everyone for their support!

***Current Status***

1. Hope Floats domestic gross: $56,411,981; thanks to my friend Han Solo for the info!

2. Garth's song from Hope Floats (TO MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE) is STILL No. 1 on the country charts.

3. So "Hope Floats" cost about $30 million to make but has domestically grossed almost twice that already. Not bad for its first two months! And the future promises to bring lots of box office dollars from outside the U.S. plus home video, DVD's, pay-per-view, cable, satellite sales. Easily, a neat $100 million when all's said and done. Thanks to my friend Tony for the info!

This is the article I wrote for the SB Press about my trip to Savannah!:

"I had the BEST time in my entire life!!!!! Not kidding! I now know sooo much more about Sandy cuz we talked and i had 2 conversations with her and got her autograph and a pic taken with her! She is the SWEETEST person! She is soooo normal and cool - u would never know she is a movie star at ALL! She rox!!!!!!! I am in the film Forces of Nature - in the backround of an important scene and i am shown (i was told) and i know a lot more about the plot and i saw a bunch of the scenes shot too but i apologize for this but I really don't want to say what we talked about or about the film cuz that is SPECIAL to me (my Sandy thing, u know?) and if Sandy wanted that stuff known, she would tell the press! Just like Sandy said to me after I gave her that Birthday Book from all her online friends, "Who's the luckiest girl in the world??? ME! :)" !!!!! That is EXACTLY how I feel now! Oh and she called me a "Sweetie" for what I did for her too and she said to her friends next her, "Now this is how u make bday cards! U need to learn from her!" I almost died from flattery! Sandy is the best person! She is soooo sweet! (Not that i am surprised at all)! :) Ok now, that is all I want to say now (lol) I am just so excited! I can't believe I MYSELF met her and talked to her and am in a few scenes with her! The rest is top secret.....sorry...LOL! :) She sure told me a lot though; she spilled "the beans" (a Sandy quote that she spoke to me! :).

This lady in Hollywood takes pictures of important events in Hollywood and sells them for a living. I think she has a store in CA somewhere! This is what she told me:

The new Entertainment Weekly magazine (June 19th issue) has quite a lot to say about HOPE FLOATS! First, they dissed the soundtrack which was really dumb because after they dissed it, they gave it a 'B-' as a grade! A 'B-' isn't bad! Gee EW! Also, on the charts, the soundtrack did really good! It was #1 on the Country Album Chart and #5 on the Pop Album Chart! That's some perty good news! LOL! :)

In the new June 12, 1998 issue of Entertainment Weekly, there are 2 things in relation to HOPE FLOATS and one thing related to Sandy. On page 53, there is the list of weekend grosses for last weekend's movies, in which HOPE FLOATS placed 2nd and there is a pic of Sandy and Mae on that page too! Page 70 has an ad for the HOPE FLOATS soundtrack and pic of the poster. And finally on page 92, there is a little Time Capsule article talking about Sandy's film SPEED, which also has a pic from that film too!

***CD Ranking***

The "Hope Floats" soundtrack was the greatest gainer on this weeks Billboard Top 100 moving to number 14 on the charts from its' debut at number forty last week. The Sandra Bullock Press predicted this CD to be number one. And they stand by that prediction. Thanks to Howard for the info!

Here are some spoilers from a Sandy fan, on the Sandra B. List I recieve by email, who saw a sneak showing of the film the other night. Don't read this if you want to wait and see the film on Friday and if you want to be surprised!

Just got back from viewing Hope Floats

Passes-only sneak preview shown on two screens simultaneously from the same reel.

Actually, I'm not going to describe the plot per se but just give some impressions.

I don't normally go for this sort of film but this was much better than average and better even than I had expeced, given the early sneak reviews I read.

The strongest points are the story, the ensemble acting, the
cinamatography, and the soundtrack; in that order.

Assuming that what made it to the screen was what Steven Rogers originally wrote, he's going places in the film world. Jodie Foster should move his 'Flora Plum' Script to the top of her 'under development' pile. The story flowed along at a good pace and with no 'dead' spots and little rushing.

Sandy, Gena Rowland, Harry Connick, Jr. and the girl who played Sandy's daughter were excellent and there were no gaps in the supporting cast. There was real chemistry between Sandy and Harry. Gena Rowland nearly
stole. The only problems I had with Sandy was her shifting in and out of a Texas accent. Good twist on the theme of the schoolyard bully by using a female. The whole film, in fact, is done from a female perspective.

The camera work and lighting was flawless. Using Smithville as itself was great and they undoubtedly saved a bundle on props not having to make it be someplace else. The soundtrak blended well, except for the Barry Manalow
piece and I'm sure that one was -intended- to grate on the nerves.

Favorite scene: Birdie feeding the ducks, just as her mother had done before her death.

Second Favorite scene. Birdie having a conversation with her mother with her face in the toilet.

Other stuff: They took 15 minutes to get the screen focused. Blah.

No celebs in sight but someone from Twentieth Century was there taking notes and a number of people who helped on the film itself were there (in Texas) (many of whom had already seen a screening last week). Waited in line two hours to get in.

SPECIAL SUMMARY FROM SOMEONE WHO SAW IT:

The movie starts off with Sandra on this talk show. She thinks she's there for a free makeover with her best friend (Rosanna Arquette). She finds out her husband and friend have been having an affair for over a year. The husband (Michael Pare) comes out and admits it's true. They then show the daughter sitting in the audience in her best dress just bawling. So within the first 5 minutes you'll be in tears!
So Sandra and her daughter move from Chicago to Texas to live with her mother and a young cousin. The boy has been left there by his mother, who went to California to star in a tv show. The little boy is cute because he always dresses as some sort of animal. Sandra's father had a stroke and lives in a nursing home. He doesn't speak and you're not quite sure if he even understands anything when Sandra visits him.
The mother (Gena Rowlands) is great. The movie focuses on Sandra's relationship with her mother, her daughter, her handling the breakup of her marriage and Harry Connick Jr pursuing her (mom sets them up every chance she can).
Sandra was a former beauty queen in this town and she wasnt' very nice to the people who weren't as popular. She discovers a lot of this by the way people treat her. Everyone in town saw her get dumped on tv and are just gloating. When she tries to apply for a job with an agency, the woman leaves her waiting over an hour and then doesn't want to help her. Turns out Sandra was never nice to her in school and had a nickname for her that escapes me right now. She does finally get a job developing film at a one hour photo shop.
Her daughter has a lot of problems at school, being the new girl. They tease her because she wears these coke bottle glasses. She accidentally hits this big girl in the head with a volleyball and the girl beats her up. It's rather sad. The daughter does not want Harry around because she wants her parents to get back together. She blames her mother for her father leaving.
When the father does finally show up at the end, it's really emotional watching the girl begging her father to take her with him. He's kind of mean to her and tells her no way. I cried a lot during this scene!
Harry was really good. They had great chemistry together. His pursuit of her is very interesting. I can't quite explain it. You know he really likes her and he tells her a lot, but not quite in a pushy way. And as much as the daughter hates him and says mean things to him, he just laughs it off and stays quite charming as he tries to get to Sandra.
I'm not quite sure what else to tell you about the movie. They're doing a lot more screenings across the country for it. I just got some fliers in the mail for them.
