IAN BARTLETT's 'The Presence'
is finally here!
Our friend Ian has just
released his long awaited concept project 'The Presence' and it is available
through CDBaby right now.
Not only is it an incredibly amazing piece of music but comes complete with
a NOVELLA from writer Xanxa. Here's the story:
“The Presence” is a progressive
rock project by multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter Ian
Bartlett.
The title track is a 27-minute 5-part suite
outlining the story of Aury, a very beautiful but loose young woman who torments
her husband Edwin with numerous affairs to the point that one night he can
take no more and takes a shotgun to her ... killing her
outright!
The twist is, Aury has realised that her
errant ways will eventually result in Edwin (A handsome man himself) getting
so sick and tired of it all, that he will find someone else! So Aury has
returned home to beg forgiveness of Edwin and now has a steely resolve to
mend her ways ... But before she can tell him ... Edwin fires the fatal shot!
CRUEL!
In the thin veil that separates this life
from the afterlife, Aury is in a rage that she has been denied the chance
to show Edwin that she REALLY does love him. So her spirit comes back to
haunt Edwin with a twisted vengeance!
The full story of "The Presence" will accompany
the CD (First 40 copies sold) - It is a 30 page Novella written by Ian’s
writer wife Xanxa, who has captured the full horror
perfectly!

ANNOUNCES NEW INSTRUMENT INVENTION!

New York, April 1st-
Anubis Spire guitarist and maverick instrument
inventor Bill MacKechnie has announced that he's invented yet another exciting
musical creation. Bill is already the inventor of quite a few unique instruments
used live and on many of ANUBIS SPIRE's albums. The ANUBITAR (a mutant
guitar/sitar hybrid) and ANUBICUBE (a dual/stereo optical theremin) are just
two that can be heard in such A.S. songs as 'Whirling Toward Shambalah' and
'Ghosts Of KV5.' Though these instruments have been useful for the music
he's written, this new instrument is aimed toward an entirely different market.
"I got to thinking," Bill recently told a reporter from Germany's DENTAL
TRAGEDIES WEEKLY magazine, "that the orchestral instrument scene has been
stagnant since the mid sixteenth century and what they really needed was
a NEW design of a traditional instrument that would still allow it's use
with all the time-honored repertoire but with extended capabilities if -for
example- (Black Sabbath guitarist) Tony Iommi should ever write a classical
piece and needed an orchestra that could match his ultra-tuned-down guitar
stylings. What I've come up with after literally minutes of trial and error
and thousands of seconds of real world testing is an upgrade for the horribly
outdated tuba, I call it the ANUBITUBA." Bill went on to explain that (like
everything about Bill himself), the ANUBITUBA was noticably bigger than average
and (again, like Bill) was capable of causing hearing loss, mental confusion
and violent nausea in many weak-minded people as well as unrestrained
'frollicking' in farm animals at 400 yards.
Physical details of the ANUBITUBA are still
top secret, though Bill has promised that pictures will be forthcoming as
soon as the patent registration is finalized. A.S. keyboardist Dave Sweet
and drummer Mick Loher both declined to comment but bassist Tim Costley agreed
to talk to POLISH SAUSAGE REVIEW if they'd buy him a taco. Over lunch, Tim
related the theory and basic operating principles behind the new instrument.
"It works on a multi-helical, inter-dimensionally dense, transdermally-infused,
infra-blue type of psuedo-pneumatic, electro-quantum, quarkian-nuclear,
static-doubling, needlessly-hyphenated, radionic principle, " he said. "It
produces a low frequency pulse that is so low that a single note waveform
from it would stretch from here to Jupiter and last ALMOST as long as a
pretentious DVD remake of one of those horrible Jane Austen novels." It's
been rumored by frightened local townsfolk that Bill has even been
able to use all the low frequency vibrations to produce cottage cheese inside
cow's udders." Tim went on to say that though he couldn't say more (without
the writer buying him some fried onion rings and a coke) that he believes
the ANUBITUBA will revolutionize classical music (and circus clown routines
worldwide) as we know it. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.
Early estimates of the ANUBITUBA's cost are
$431,000-USD (United States Dollars) for brass and 998,000,000-PNGPB (Papua
New Guinea pork bones) for zinc plated ,whey protein coated, cardboard.

R.I.P. Tom "Doc"
Gunderson-1953-2007.It's with an extremely heavy heart that we
report the passing of our friend and fellow musician Tom "Doc" Gunderson.
He died on Dec. 7 of complications arising from his long battle with diabetes.
Doc was a great friend to all those who knew and loved him, and his
easy going and generous nature, quick wit and great humor never faded; even
when life dealt him blows that would put even the best of us out for the
count. Doc was born in Rochester, N.Y. He graduated from Ithaca College
with a degree in psychology (3rd in his class.) The name Doc originated there.
He said once that his buddies in the science lab used to call each other
Doc. (there were other reasons for that name, but lets not and say we did...
:-)
After graduation he remained in Ithaca for a
few years, meeting and playing with other budding musicians that would later
come to play major roles in the rest of his life. Doc was very actively engaged
as a solo act in the Central New York and Finger Lakes regions and would
be remembered by many for his mellow sounding voice and repertoire that was
heavy with James Taylor (soundalike voice, for sure...) and Jackson Browne
tunes. In those times, the early 70s, he was booked by several agents all
over the North Country and was a full-time professional musician. Later on
he hooked up with Phil Janecki in the Heroes band as lead vocalist. Unfortunately
his health began to fail and he had the first of two kidney transplants and
that ultimately made performing and traveling impossible and put him out
of the music business.
He is survived by his mother Marilyn Gunderson,
brothers David, Terry and Don and his sister Diane, good friends Linda and
Phil Janecki and many more fans of his music (and himself) than he probably
could have imagined.
Though my experiences with him were limited
to seeing him perhaps once or twice a year, he always made me feel like he
was glad to see me and would always find the time to listen to new songs
I was working on and to offer his advice and support. His own music was warm,
heartfelt, musically and lyrically sophisticated and yet when he played it
for you, he made it all seem so effortless. That is the mark of a true
professional and Doc was definitelty that and so much more. Smart, funny
and quick to lend an ear or a hand. I'll miss him.

ANUBIS SPIRE has announced that they are making
their latest album "Children Of A Foreign Faith" available for free download
until the 1st of 2008. The album, which has garnered praise from critics
and fans alike has become the band's best selling offering to date, surpassing
in sales ( in a mere six months ) their popular 1998 debut "Old Lions (in
the world of snarling sheep)" which continues to sell well a full decade
after it's release. "Children Of A Foreign Faith" has drawn comparisons to
the concept albums and ambitious rock operas of the 70's and the works of
such legendary bands as Dream Theater and Pink Floyd. While it's lyrics deal
primarily with the effects of child abuse and all of the life repercussions
that it entails, the music, true to course and in patented Anubis Spire style,
winds it's way through multiple musical genres yet always remains supportive
of the overall concept and mood.
The band said that they decided to offer the
free full album download to both thank fans for all their support and to
allow those who cannot afford the CD or high resolution paid downloads, a
chance to still have a copy of the album. It will be available until New

A year ago today our friend LEO TAGLIALAVORE flew away.
We could tell you about
all of the great music that he's been responsible for this past year as his
friends struggled to not only pay tribute to him but come to some sort of
personal closure, but instead we're going to once again suggest you go listen
to the man himself. Read the tributes. Read his own words and listen and
look at his art. Those of us he left behind will do our best to keep bringing
his spirit into our own work and hope that we're making him proud. Go listen

What happened to
the A.S. Myspace (and Audiostreet) page????
Well...it's a long story
but the simple version is I deleted them. Those of you who read this page
often, know that RBR's Kathy Stewart was in charge of our web endeavors and
for many years did a great job. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to help
us in this capacity and for the last few years, yours truly has been trying
to keep everything going and it's now come to the time when I must admit
defeat. There is just not enough time in the day for me to continue doing
this. Though our Myspace page was rolling along at a truly amazing pace and
was definitely a great asset to the band, it required much more time than
I can now give it (if any friends of the band might be interested in being
webmaster on a NEW A.S. site, I'd be glad to discuss it with you and provide
all the materials necessary, etc. Drop me a line at
RBRecords@aol.com).
The Audiostreet site, while not requiring as
much interaction, was stagnant with A.S. more times than not, holding the
top slots on the progressive rock charts. Despite this we got very
little traffic or click throughs from the site. I think it's better to retire
our page (at least for a while) and free up our slots for the other great
bands there.
Anyway, I apologize to the almost 5000 friends
who supported us at Myspace for leaving so abruptly. I just couldn't do it
alone anymore.
