Typical Numerology Calculations

Welcome!

This is one of several numerology pages presented by Aspire Press.
If you haven't been there yet, we recommend that you start with our
"Do-It-Yourself Numerology" page.

Your Numerology Chart

As we mentioned previously, an astrology chart looks at more than just your sun sign. Likewise a numerology chart doesn't just focus on one particular number but provides the results of several calculations. These numbers are then Handy Number Guideexamined and interpreted in relation to each other. And unlike astrology, numerology is wonderfully simple. So simple that you really can "do it yourself."

The only tricky part is learning how to interpret these numbers for yourself or for your friends. But the more you read, the more you practice, the more confident you will become. For some book ideas, visit our page Numerology Books And Suggestions For Further Study.

Also, there are many excellent computer programs that will help you perform some of the basic math functions. Some of these free programs even provide an interpretation of your numbers. This is an excellent way for the beginner to double-check his or her work. To learn more, visit our page Free Numerology Software.

Just be aware that many numerologists will have different names for the same calculations. On this page, for example, we refer to the sum total of vowels in a person's name as the "Heart's Desire" number. Another numerologist might refer to this same calculation as the "Inner Self" number or any other term that strikes their fancy. This can get a little confusing at first until you realize that the basic calculations are pretty much the same universally. As long as you know how to perform the basic calculations--regardless of what they are called--that's all that matters!

The Basic Calculations:

The examples below should give you a pretty good idea what goes into a typical numerology analysis. Using what you have learned so far, see how many of these calculations you can now perform for yourself or your friends. Note: On our Numerology and the Secrets of Your Name page, we used Henry Quincy Mathers as an example. To help you follow along with this fictitious person's chart, we have plugged in the appropriate numerical values as follows:

DAY OF BIRTH:

The Day of Birth Number is a powerful indicator of your point of view and general stance in the world. It is the day of the month on which you were born (apart from the month and year).

(Day of Birth for Henry: 11/2)

BIRTHPATH:

The Birthpath Number is arrived at by adding your month, day, and year of birth. The Birthpath Number reveals who you are, what you do best, and whatever natural abilities you have.

(Birthpath for Henry: 9)

DESTINY:

It is in this number that the numerical values of your birth name come into play. The Destiny Number is the sum of your first, middle, and last name at birth. Just as the word "Destiny" suggests, this number reveals the purpose, the goal, and direction of your life.

(Destiny for Henry: 9)

REALIZATION:

This is the sum total of your Birthpath and your Destiny numbers. The Realization Number shows you what you might accomplish, given your Birthpath and Destiny.

(Realization for Henry: 9)

HEART'S DESIRE:

Sometimes we convince ourselves we should or should not do certain things. Yet despite these intellectual considerations, there are certain desires, certain qualities that seem to influence our lives. Will your Heart's Desire (the sum of the vowels in your name) help or hinder you along life's path?

(Heart's Desire for Henry: 1)

PERSONALITY:

Your Heart's Desire (the vowels in your name) examines the inner you (what you most cherish). Your Personality Number is the outer you and is obtained by adding the consonants in your name. Of course, it is always best when the inner and outer parts of you are in harmony.

(Personality for Henry: 8)

Is that all there is to a numerology report?

No, there are many other calculations that can be performed. As you read more, you will discover endless possibilities. However, a good working knowledge of the above calculations is really all you need.

What about numerology interpretation?

The "Handy Number Guide" at the top of this page and our Numerology and What the Numbers Mean page offer you a good overview of number interpretation. Just as the astrologer quickly acquaints himself or herself with the sun signs of the zodiac, so too should you really get to know the numbers 1 through 9 (and the Master Numbers 11 and 22). Think of them like friends! The more you get to know them, the more you appreciate their good points and not-so-good points.  If at all possible, read how various numerologists describe those numbers. That way, you will come to understand their subtle nuances. And then you will know what it means when you see a particular number theme start to emerge in someone's numerology chart. Or what it means if several numbers are curiously absent.

Whether you are performing a numerology analysis for yourself or a friend--try to be objective. Naturally you will be focusing on individual numbers. But also try to get an overall feel for how the numbers harmonize or conflict with each other. Do certain numbers reappear in various categories? If so, this might suggest a person with a strong tendency in a particular direction. At times the person may carry this tendency to an extreme. But if they have a strong negative tendency, how might they use it in a positive way? Likewise you may come across a person with many different numbers. This might suggest someone who is well-rounded, capable of functioning at their best in several areas of their life. Or it might be that such a person feels scattered, lacking an overall drive or strong direction.

As you will soon discover, interpreting the numbers is an art form. With experience you will find yourself able to make sense of an individual's chart. You will also find it possible to provide numerology compatibility analysis.  And you may even be called upon to offer numerology analysis for pets.

There is a lot more to numerology than math! Anyone can operate a calculator. But a really good numerologist understands what makes people tick. And it probably helps to also have a heightened sense of intuition.

Just remember--you CAN do it!
