The Connecticut Yankee Council and Connecticut Rivers Council will conduct a high adventurer skills resources management course called Powder Horn on 23 - 25 Aug 02 and 27 - 29 Sep 02 at Camps Workcoeman and Sequassen.

The Powder Horn course is designed to expose Venturing and Boy Scouting adults to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor/high adventure program of a fun and challenging nature. It also familiarizes participants with the Ranger Award program and provides him or her guidelines to help Venturers to achieve this award.

Course sessions will include: Backpacking, Cooking, Project COPE, Communication, Cave Exploring, Conservation, Cycling, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Expedition Planning, Ecology, Equestrian, Fishing, Land Navigation, Leave No Trace Camping, Lifesaving, Mountaineering, Outdoor Living History, Physical Fitness, Plants and Wildlife, SCUBA, Shooting Sports, Watercraft, Wilderness Survival, and more.

(Note that no one will be compelled to do anything which they don't feel comfortable with.)

The course will be limited to 48 participants. Participant qualifications are:

Participant fee for the course is $205, which includes all meals, training materials, and program supplies. Participants must provide their own personal gear including tentage for the overnight experience on the second weekend.

A space can be reserved by completing a Powder Horn application and returning it to the Connecticut Yankee Council service center along with payment in accordance with the schedule on the course application.

It is important to note that this is a hands-on, intense, early-morning to late-at-night schedule. A number of activities will be held in the backcountry. Participants will need to have a current Class III physical completed before participating in the course.
