My youngest son is now bigger than I am. It seems like only yesterday that he was telling me that he couldn't wait until next year, so that he would be old enough to be a Cub Scout. That was my first year as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. I was a Webelos Den Leader for my oldest son's den. My oldest got "Scouted Out" by the time he made Tenderfoot, but my younger two have grown up in Scouting. Presently, we're members of Troop 196 in Milford, CT.
I've just retired my Scoutmaster badge after four years, and now I can concentrate on our Venturing Crew. More details about that are on another page.
Our Council is Connecticut Yankee Council, which was created as the result of a merger between Fairfield County and Quinnipiac Council. The merging of the Order of the Arrow lodges, Tankiteke Lodge 313 and Arcoon Lodge 369 resulted in Owaneco Lodge 313. My son Justin is the Chapter Chief for the Arcoon Chapter. He is also a former member of our lodge dance team, the Quinnipiac Dancers.
Connecticut Yankee Council maintains 5 camps, here is a link to the official site, including driving directions.

Some of the more memorable camporees we've been to there have included "The Relief of Mafeking", in which all of the program occurs Saturday night after the campfire program. This is nice because you get all day Saturday to do your own advancement.
In the fall of 2000, Crew 196 assisted me in running a Leave No Trace camporee, which was based on program I've detailed on my Leave No Trace page. This was a learning camporee, in which the Crew helped our District in learning and understanding The Principals of Leave No Trace. I've asked our Scout Shop to keep a count of how many Leave No Trace Awareness Awards are earned as a result.
Another great event is the MassJam, which is held on Cape Cod every four years. We've attended in 1994 and 1999. The next one is due in October of 2003. Keep an eye on the Scout Outing Calendar at the Scouts New England site for an announcement.
