  • What is Cabin X?
    Cabin X is an e-mail group about The X-Files, Life, The Universe and Everything (and I do mean everything.)


  • What is the topic?
    Our topic is The X-Files, but we happily stray. We do try to stop long, ongoing threads that are entirely between 2 or a few people and are incomprehensible to the rest of the Cabin. Bottom Line is: If you're looking for a place that is strictly about characters, plots, nitpicking and nothing else, this is not the group for you. We do have plenty of all that, but more. If you're looking for a nice community of Philes to obsess with, Cabin X just might be for you!


  • What can I expect in Cabin X?
    Lots of mail. Lots and Lots and Lots of mail. If you can't handle 10-30ish emails a day, thismay not be the place for you You can also expect fun, odd times, amusement and some really insane times. Believe me, it's worth it. :o)


  • How did Cabin X start?
    Cabin X started on the AOL P/T (Paris/Torres) Collective Message Boards (link?) back in November of 1997. You can see the original posts if you really want here. Anyway, the Collective (Camp Brandy) got a bit annoyed with us babbling on about X-Files on a Star Trek Romance board, so Laura 5 built us a cabin (With help from B'Elanna), Mysti and Rachel gathered together the Philes and we've been happily sailing along ever since. :o)


  • Who is in Cabin X?
    Well, we're usually all-female. This was not by design, it just happened this way because the Collective is overwhelmingly female and that is from whence we came. We have had guys however.
    Julia, Laura 47, Mysti and Rachel are the Counselors. Sara is our Roster!Mistress, Mysti is the Shipper Queen and Laura 47 runs the webpage and is writing this FAQ. A fuller list of Cabin members should be available soon.


  • What are the rules?
    We don't have too many rules, just some basic ones.
    --No Flaming
    --Use Spoiler Space
    --Try to keep the multiple messages at one time and the one line messages down...
    --Have Fun!


  • Who can Join?
    We have an Open Door Policy here in Cabin X (and an open airlock policy... sorry! B5 joke! couldn't resist!) We do not discriminate based on: Age, Race, Species, Hair length, eyesight, Shipper Status, Gender, Socio-economic status, nationality, Cartoon preferences, Star Trek feelings, Creed, Pets, piercings and/or body art, shoe size, sexual orientation, masonry membership, lifestyle, favorite color, Shipper status, Online server (except for practical reasons), Computer Operating System or Name (though we do reserve the right to designate you based on need, ie. Laura 4 of 7, Julie 1 of 2, UmbraGirl!Julie...)

  • What is "Spoiler Space"?
    Good question, Good question! Not everyone sees episodes (eps) at the same time, and to prevent ruining eps for other people, it is common courtesy to use Spoiler Space when talking about recent(which is a very relative term) or future eps. It should look like this,

    And then the spoiler information.
    This way, people can skip the message and not be spoiled.
    When in doubt, use Spoiler Space, And remember to use Spoiler Space when REPLYING to spoilers also. (This public service announcement brought to you by: Spoiler Ranger B'Elanna, standing between the Spoiled and the UnSpoiled.)


  • How about explaining some of the Inside Jokes?
    Sure! (The Glossary is a nice resource.)

    Marshmallows- Marshmallows, or "mallows", came with us from the Collective (Camp Brandy). We throw them =============----------(___() () () and have Mallow wars. Fun stuff.

    Flagpole- The Flagpole stands proudly at the center of Camp Brandy. People who torture Tommy in fanfic are sent up there, I've been chased up it at chats, and Ana:) seems intent on sending people up it for various infractions.

    Fence- When it comes to Mulder/Scully Romance (MSR), you have Shippers (there's a nice dissertation on shippers here (http://members.aol.com/belanna222/shipp.html) ) NoRomos (people who do not want any romance) and Fencesitters (people who could go either way.) So we have a fence for the fencesitters to sit on and for Ana:) to nap against.

    MulderClones- We are quite proud of our Mulder!Clones! You can pick up your own at Mulder Clones 'R' Us (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/4576/clonecover.html)

    Who is this "Mr.Ellison"?- Mr. Ellison is Liz and Steph and Julia and maybe Suzi and Crystal and Julie's Russian History teacher. Laura 47 has spread a rumor that Liz loves Mr. Ellison, which Liz passionately denies. Liz wants to kill Laura because of this, and prolly will after she sees this FAQ.


    Penguins- Penguins with sporks art the mighty minions of bob the shoelace girl. They art noble creatures who fight only with the invincible power of ye spork!! They art powerful creatures and a force to be recconed unto. Not only that, but they art incredble dancers! ::penguins with sporks begin to dance::

    Sporks- Ye spork. The most perfect eating utensil upon the face of ye earth. Not only do it contain the mighty power of ye fork, but it also dost contian the grace of ye spoon. Although it dost be pretty much useless for actual partaking of ye sustinance, ye spork may be used as the essential weapon for ye penguin army.

    Peasants- Peasants: Peasants like to rejoice. That be what makes their simple lives worthwhile. They art used in moments of happiness. Though may sayest something such as ::penguins with sporks begin to dance:: and ye peasants will quickly follow with "and the peasants rejoice: horray...".

  • What is Fanfic?
    Shocking, isn't it, but some people don't know what fanfic is. A Fanfic is a story, written by fans, about TV characters. Check out Julie's Fanfic Recommendations. (http://members.aol.com/BElanna222/recs.html)
