Mysti Reviews:
"Monday"

Ok. I really actually liked this episode. My only complaints were that Mulder only got shot once--not nearly enough penance. Also, Scully never once got shot. You have no idea how much I hoped Bernard would just shoot her already so that we could see Mulder Angst. And due to the only seeing Mulder shot once, we didn't get a whole lot of Scully angst, either.

But these are tiny little nitpicks. And I think the rest of the episode made up for it.

I think Mulder probably paid almost enough penance in his Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day That Keeps Getting Worse. However, some points to pick on that:
--Most waterbed owners are aware of the possibility of a leak. This is why your waterbed mattress comes with a lovely plastic liner so that disasters like that don't happen. True, the leak WAS on top of the mattress...but STILL.
--You know, for such a smart man, Mulder has about the brains of an eggplant when he goes to remove a plug from a socket deluged with water. I mean, why couldn't he just have been electrocuted on one of the 50-odd times that day repeated? It would have solved the problem!
--Haha. Mulder messes up another cell phone.
--And now his landlord hates him MORE.

I have to admit, when I first saw Mulder sleeping in an actual BED, no less Morris's waterbed, I spazzed. Mulder must sleep on the black leather couch! It is a Mulder TRAIT!! But that was resolved by the end. And it was so cute when he would try to explain it. "I think it was a gift...." and the way he just changed the subject when Scully asked incredulously "You have a WATERBED?".

Another enjoyable note: Mulder and Scully are back in the basement!!! On the Xfiles!! And Skinner is their boss! ::happy dance of joy:: Although they did have to get all new decorations =( and the place the "I Want To Believe" poster occupied is conspiciously empty. Oh, yes, and I think Mulder deserved a another good slap or two, once I noticed that SCULLY STILL DOES NOT HAVE A NAMEPLATE!!!!

So I really liked the premise of this episode. The first time around was GREAT. Mulder shot on the floor...the angst of Scully, trying DESPERATELY to hold it together. Oh dear god. It was wonderful. And you got to see Mulder and Scully in QuanticoTraining!Mode, telling Bernard he's the boss, etc etc. When Mulder saw Scully coming, the relatively terrorstricken/panicked look on his face and the way he tried to get Bernard to lock the doors before she got there. Awww. And then that other time, when Bernard had the gun on Scully and was telling Mulder to drop the gun, and he's like "I'll shoot her!!" and Mulder's like, "Then what do you think I'll do?" I was like, Yes, you will get the fate Agent Ritter narrowly avoided, which is being ripped apart limb by limb and fed to his fish.

However, one point which I have to harp on about ALL scenarios. Everytime they saw Bernard with the bomb, they just stood there. Scully didn't shoot. Mulder didn't shoot. I'm sorry, but I think a bullet could get there faster than he could flick the switch...yet they just put their gun down??? And that almost final time!! They have time to see Bernard unbutton his jacket, go for the switch, and Mulder had time to CHANT. Yet did anyone shoot him?? NO! They just let him do it!! I realize they couldn't aim for the chest because of the bomb, but I think that presents a threat to life, and they could have shot his head! What the freaking hell was THAT!! That was LackOfQuanticoTraining!Mulder and Scully. Umbra!Mulder and Scully could have shot the guy AND done it with grace and style. Dawson, where are you when we need you?

Now for some fashion comments:
--we got about 200 times the RDA of Shirtless!Mulder
--Scully looked so CUTE in this episode! Her hair looked great, and her shirt was like, all sheer at the top. I *liked* it!

I liked the plot. I liked the way it was excuted. I liked the way they were back in the basement. I liked the way that I could feel that old partnerly bond back, through their concern, their sparring (Cover for me. When do I not?? --go Scully, go Scully) and their patented believer/skeptic over fate/free will. I suddenly felt transported back to a time where it was Diana Who? and Mulder still maintained some measure of faith and trust in his partner. I have to give this one * * * 3/4. The only part I didn't particularly find fufilling was the end. It was kind of....random.

OH MY GOD. Arcadia next week. I am COUNTING the days!!
