Now, as I'm sure your all aware of Keith Olbermann's last show was Sunday, June 29. He ended the show thanking the staff at ESPN, the viewers, and last but certanly not least, he thanked his tag-team partner Dan Patrick, and then told him to shut up in classic Olbermann style. Dan then talked about how fortunate he has been to work with one of the most of the most talented men in broadcasting and how Keith was now becoming a newsman, at MSNBC in case you haven't heard. Dan's last word in referring to Keith was his classic home run call "Gone". The show then faded out and the last thing shown was Keith and Dan shaking hands.
I am only 14, but I have been watching SportsCenter back since the days when the set was blue and there were 9 television sets behind the anchors. During my years of watching the show I have always most anticipated the episodes in which Olbermann and Patrick were together the most. Their dry wit, great sense of humor, and knowledge of sports have always shined through and made The Big Show quite possibly the best hour on television.
It's kind of ironic how I found out about Keith's departure. I found out when I decided to watch The Daily Show at 11 p.m. because SportsCenter was going to be on late because of a baseball game. Here's the ironic part, as I'm sure many of you know that The Daily Show is hosted by Craig Kilborn, another SportsCenter great who left the show a while back. It was heartbreaking news especially since I had just finished reading the book Keith and Dan wrote called "The Big Show" and I was more in love with the show than ever.
So I would like to take this space on my humble site to thank Keith Olbermann for all the ggggghhhhs, hellos!, and all his other catch phrases and witty remarks. I will miss his presence behind the SportsCenter desk a great deal and I hope he does well at MSNBC. Bye Keith. ( '92-'97 )
