A question I sent in to Mustang Illustrated
about the "Clevelands Rock" 351 Cleveland
buildup was answered in the December 1999 issue. See what I asked and
what they said!
Here are the links to some of my other sites.
MY 1988 FORD MUSTANG
We bought my '88 Mustang GT brand new from Frank Berka Autocenter in
Daingerfield, TX. It was one of three on the lot and the only one with
an AOD. One of the other two, a black over grey GT, also resides in
my area and is owned by our County District Judge but the third's whereabouts
is unknown. It came with all the options available except leather
seats and the premium sound system. It was born in June of 1988 at
Ford's Dearborn Mustang plant and was # 89,462 off the assembly line out
of a total of 211,225 Mustangs that year. 68,468 GT's were made that
year and 50,294 GT's were hatchbacks. Am I a Mustang nut? Well,
do you have your VIN of your Mustang memorized? I do.
Since then I have succeeded and failed miserably to make modifications to it but the end is most certainly no where near. As I had said one time long ago, I planned to be the first human to break the sound barrier on the open highway or interstate. Well, im more realistic now and a LOT more responsible.
THE 1990 G.T. R.I.P.
We bought a '90 GT from Berka, but one of our former friends totaled it out
when he decided to be cute and pull a "Bandit" (Smokey & The Bandit)
slide into a turn in front of my brother. He had a old beat up 86 T/A
wanna be that he bought for almost nothing. At the time, the 90 was worth
4 times as much as his T/A and ran about that much faster, but he couldn't
stand it. He had no insurance, registration, or inspection sticker
valid on his car and faulty rear brakes but the police saw fit to blame my
brother for the incident. If not for my brothers quick reaction, both
the front and rear passengers on the passenger side of the T/A would now
be 6 foot under. My brothers passenger was puking his guts up in a
ditch from the seat belt jerking him while my brother was half knocked out
from the air bag deploying on impact. The driver of the T/A did not
go call for an ambulance or the police but instead called his father to come
retrieve the alcohol he and his passengers were drinking so it would be gone
when the police arrived. What a deal huh?
BRADEN'S 1988 FORD MUSTANG
After the whole incident subsided, we purchased another '88 GT from a used
car lot in Longview, Tx for my brother with the insurance money we received.
The car was in excellent condition, but the owner failed to take advantage
of the paint recall from Ford. We converted the A/C to 134a and had the heater
core replaced. He bought some used solid rims like the Centerline Drag II's
and had the car painted solid black. The latest modifications include
an Edelbrock Performer 5.0 intake, a transmission cooler, and a GER Pro Street
AOD transmission with a 2100 stall 11 inch converter.
