I'm a descendant of Andrew Barbee (1), Thomas (2), Andrew (3), John B. (4), William H.(5), James Monroe (6), Charles Andrew, Sr (7), Allen Howison (8) (my dad). My grandfather (Charles Andrew Barbee, Sr. b. 3/5/1861; d 10/4/1939) said that the Barbee's came from France and that 3 bothers came over together. To the best of my knowledge, he never mentioned names or how they came over (name of boat, etc.) Wonder if two of the three were Andrew and William? How would you go about checking into this? At the present, I have a pretty good start on the Andrew Barbee descendants. I have some conflicting dates; but, I suppose that is to be expected since records weren't always that accurate. Also, enjoyed reading all of the guestbook registrants. Heard from a few of my relatives. I'm going to check their info against mine.

I can think of no other explanation than placing the above Joseph as the youngest son of Thomas and Margaret Williams Barbee. The Joseph Barbee b. 1758 in Stafford VA, was still in Stafford in 1787. He is also too young to have children before 1770. The other Joseph Barbee, d. 1790/1, spouse of Ann Withers, you already know about. James Foley, Jr. (ca. 1737-1826) and Sarah O'Bannon (ca. 1737-1810+). Sarah O'Bannon was the the daughter of John O'Bannon (1710-1774) and Sarah Barbee (ca. 1712-1806), and Sarah Barbee was the daughter of Thomas Barbee (ca. 1690-1752) of Stafford Co., VA and his wife Margaret. I realize that my dates do not agree with those that you have posted, and I also realize that there has been (and continues to be) a great deal of confusion over this line (there are at least two James Foleys (father and son) who are frequently confused. But, the information that I am supplying seems to have been pretty well-documented by several other researchers who have been working on the Foley family for many years.
