Comments: I'm looking for information on my Barbe kin. The original
Barbee was Juana and her brother Francisco. Juana married Jose Alvarez prior
to moving to Amelia Island in FL which is now San Fernandina, FL. The family
moved inland in 1819 after troops destroyed all their holdings and belongings.
They settled in Starke/Bradford County, FL. We have extensive information
on the Alvarez side, but are interested in finding out more about Francisco
and Juana and where they were from originally. One theory is they were from
Asturias, Spain, another theory is that they were Italian and the name was
"Spanished" and ended up being Barbe. Any information would be helpful. We
have Juana Barbe's birthyear as 1794/5. First listed in FL as of 1790. A
possible relative Joseph Barbee helped Jose & Juana's children with a
probate document that wa signed by three of their children in November 1847.
After that, no further mention of the name anywhere. Any information would
be
helpful. |

Comments: Sirena Barbee's parents with three sons came from England
and settled in Orange Co., NC where Sirena was born in 1814. She m. abt.
1831 Job B. Garner and settled in Lawrence Co., TN where she died in 1902.
In 1836 in Lawrence Co., TN there was also a young woman, Nancy F. Barbee,
whose mother, Hilary, signed her marriage certificate to Lewis Higgs. If
you recognize any of these Barbees, please let me hear from you. Dean

BARBEE b. 1814 Orange Co NC and d.1902 Tennessee, buried in Mimosa Cem.
Lawrenceburge TN She married Jobe GARNER about 1831 in TN? Children: Delana
Elizabeth b. 1832 marr James Rackney Nancy b. 1836 Tn marr Brown William
J. b. 1838 Tn Selena M. b. 1840 Tn marr Charles Norwood James Knox Polk b.
1842 marr Ella Clegg George Mifflin Dallas b. 1844 marr Cynthia Sutton Likely
that the first female and male were named after grandparents, as was the
custom... Jobes' parents were John and Elizabeth...so could Delana be Sirena's
mothers name? Could William Barbee be Sirena's father?? Any help appreciated.

Comments: My
grandfather was Charles Gilson Barb'e amd stowed away on a ship from England
when he was fifteen. He came to find his father in America. He had a family
in South Louisiana and in Oklahoma, we believe. This was before he came to
East Texas and had a family here. Some of our family in Okla. spell their
name with two es. He died around l922 and is buried here in Shelby County.
I could find out more if needed from family members. |
