SUN. 01 -
HORSE-SHOE TRAIL MAINTENANCE.
Depart G & R at 8:30 AM (R8 or
R7 trains available) or meet at K of P at 9:00 AM. As our
participation in PA/DCNR Hiking Week, we are going to do trail
maintenance on our part of the Horseshoe Trail. Help us perform the
vital job of maintaining our section from Plowville to Knauers. Next
to the A.T., this is Pennsylvania's most historic trail. We care for 8
of its lovely miles and we need your help to do it properly. It's no
harder work than you would do in a backyard garden; your efforts will

SAT. 07 -
KELLY'S RUN/ HOLTWOOD ENVIROMENTAL PRESERVE
in LancasterCounty, PA . 7-8 mile loop hike. About 2000' overall gain at a
moderate pace. Great hike thru a mystical, cool gorge plus a wonderful
river vista. Boots recommended, sticks optional. Meet at Playground/
Pavilion parking lot (near swing sets) off Old Holtwood Rd at 9:45AM.
Cost: $0.75. Sorry no carpool offered. Leaders: Joe Maryanski, evening

HISTORIC SMITHVILLE PARK, NJ.
Depart from Red Lion at 9:00
AM. We will explore the Smithville Historic District which was known
for woodworking machinery and the creation of the high-wheeled bicycle
one century ago. The park offers beautiful river vistas, a floating
trail on a lake, freshwater streams and forest areas. We can visit
Mansion Complex, the well preserved museum of industrialist, Mr. Smith
and his family. 5 to 6 miles. 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM there will be an
Earth Fair with vendors, crafts and live music. Cost: $0.75. Leader:

SAT. 14 -
KITTATINNY MT. and YARDS CREEK.
Depart Fern Rock 7:45 or
Warrington 8:15. Contact leader prior to the evening before the hike
for trailhead meeting place. Route will include the AT and other
Delaware Water Gap area trails. Highlights include Sunfish Pond and/or
Catfish Pond and the Catfish lookout tower. The trail is rocky, and
there will be a climb of around 1,000 feet as we ascend to the AT, so
sturdy footwear is a must. Bring lunch, snacks, and plenty of water.
10 - 12 miles. Cost: $0.75 plus $12.00 CTDTOE. Leaders: Carol

EVANSBURG STATE PARK.
Depart from G & R at 10:30 AM. ( R8
arrives in Chestnut Hill at 10:19) A delightful 6 mile loop hike on
the gently rolling trails along Skippack Creek. Bring lunch and water.

WED. 18 -
FORT WASHINGTON STATE PARK MOONLIGHT HIKE.
Depart from G & R
at 7:00 PM. A mostly flat 5 to 6 mile hike along the Green Ribbon
Preserve Trail and other trails in this small state park. Celebrate
the beginning of summer under the full moon. Cost $0.75. Leaders: Anna

SUN. 29 -
BARTRAM RAILS - TO - TRAILS, PORT CLINTON AREA.
Depart 309
Cinema at 9:00 AM. Our hike will begin in Port Clinton where we will
see the headquarters of the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern
freight line (which was modeled after the historic Reading RR station
at Catawissa). Then, we will hike north on the Bartram Rail Trail (the
old Pennsylvania RR line) to the end near Auburn. The return walk
south will end at Hamburg. This is a nice scenic walk. 10.5 miles.
