Silesia, Province of Germany

Now Slask, Poland

September 9, 2002

My ancestry comes from Silesia on both sides. We claim Hirschberg as our home town, now Jelenia Gora.

Grunau is located directly north of Hirschberg. It's Polish name is Jezow Sudecki. Jezow Sudecki (Grunau), the oldest village in the Hirscberg Basin (1299), lies in the Gory Kaczawskie range. The area is known for it's 16th-centiry gold and silver mines. The airport on Gora Szybowcowa witnessed many breaking of records.

On this web site I am collecting information about Silesia and it's culture and sharing the story of my family. Much of my research genealogically is concentrated in towns surrounding Hirschberg, in Kreis Bolkenhain, and Schönau.
