Catherine Levison resides with her family in Tacoma, Washington where she has home schooled her five children since 1989. Besides her busy life as a wife, mother and grandmother, Catherine has been an active member of her community—volunteering at a local historical site, leading various study groups, teaching both children and adults, and conducting numerous workshops and all day seminars on educational topics.

Catherine Levison extensively researched Charlotte Mason's ideas and methods of education, using for her resource materials Charlotte Mason's own writings and numerous articles from Miss Mason's original publication "The Parents' Review"—all of which are now in the public domain and available from the Library of Congress (Washington, D.C.) and also available in the United Kingdom.

For several years, Catherine Levison led a large regional Charlotte Mason support group in Washington State. She is now a popular speaker among home schooling and parenting audiences throughout the United States and Canada. She writes regular columns on homeschooling for several publications such as The Link: A Homeschool Newspaper .

Catherine is the author of the popular and helpful book A Charlotte Mason Education: A How-to Manual, and the sequel, More Charlotte Mason Education.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Individual convention workshops listed above cover various topics and use assorted formats. Here are descriptions of Catherine's most frequent workshops:

AN OVERVIEW OF THE CHARLOTTE MASON METHOD
Want happy children who are thoroughly educated? Tap in to how children naturally learn while you avoid burn out. Go beyond the three R’s and enrich your lives with the humanities. Learn how to use narration—a powerful, effective, and free technique. With this method you can improve your children’s level of observation and knowledge by replacing expensive curriculums with the finest literature, poetry, art, and music.

HISTORY AND SCIENCE IN THE CHARLOTTE MASON METHOD
Retention is everything! Stop wasting your time and money—replace those boring workbooks with real life. Learn how to improve your children’s power of observation in an effective, thorough, yet loving way. Find out how to combine well-chosen literary books, direct contact, and sketching for the desired result . . . lasting knowledge. Nature notebooks and a homemade book of the centuries will be covered.

LANGUAGE ARTS FOR (ALMOST) FREE
So many language arts, so little money. As with most things, there is a boring way to teach children, and there is a more interesting way. Charlotte Mason’s techniques bring an end to the tears and complaints for both parent and child while drastically reducing the cost! This workshop covers foreign language, composition, handwriting, literature, poetry, spelling, and dictation.

BALANCING ACT: TO STRUCTURE OR NOT TO STRUCTURE
Only YOU know if you need to loosen up or tighten up your home school efforts. Achieve the long, sought-after balance between unschooling and planned academics by implementing Charlotte Mason’s “short lessons.” Replace dawdling with good habits so that everybody has more free time to enjoy life.

HOME SCHOOLING THE TEENAGER WITH CONFIDENCE
Educating older children includes many considerations; college preparation, graduation, and marketable labor skills. Reduce the fear of teaching the higher grade levels through realistic goals. Effective methods combined with a working knowledge of “what to teach” are the keys. Receive the practical advice and encouragement you need to succeed with your junior and senior high students.
