A Chancel Opera by Susan Bingham

David & Jonathan is a wonderfully moving short opera about the love between David and Jonathan and the jealousy of King Saul. Using texts taken directly from the Bible, Susan Bingham tells their passionate story in song as they meet, court, declare their love, fight with Saul, separate, and declare undying love.

D&J was commissioned by the Gay Christian Readings Group of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) in New Haven, Connecticut. It features three male singers and a young spear carrier. Running time is approximately 45 minutes.
