My HOPE FLOATS Audition Page!

Audition Scene 2:
Bernice and Birdee are out on the porch on a swing. Bernice and Birdee discuss their plans, hopes, and dreams while having a playful pillow fight. Bernice wants a new home, a pet, and courage. She also wants friends in which she is worried about because she has never really been liked (she is nicknamed "Pop-Eye" in school by the way). Birdee tries to encourage her and she herself wishes for a true love (which upsets Bernice).

Audition Scene 3:
Tom (Birdee's husband) comes to Ramona's and yells at Birdee about his having an affair with Birdee's best friend Connie. He then abruptly says he wants a divorce, which makes Birdee overwhelmed. Bernice is on the stairs eavesdropping on the conversation and hears this and becomes extremely frightened. She runs up to her room and packs a suitcase fast. She then runs back downstairs and out the door after her father who is leaving. Birdee watches Bernice fearfully. Bernice and Tom argue about him taking her with him. He gets in the car and locks the door; Bernice stands there stunned. As Tom pulls out of the driveway, Bernice screams and cries hysterically for him to take her. Birdee stands on the porch shaking and watching her silently.

Audition Scene 4:
Bernice lies on her bed sobbing loudly. Birdee enters and Bernice tells her that her father doesn't want her and Birdee tries to comfort her and says that that isn't true and that her father loves her very much.

Audition Scene 5:
Late one night, Birdee, Travis, Ramona, and Bernice go to Bernice's school for an open house (I think). At the school, Bernice recites a BEAUTIFUL poem about "hope" in front of the entire school in the auditorium. After the poem, she is changed and full of confidence - the one thing she wanted so badly. Birdee silently takes pictures of her daughter and Bernice beams.
