Teamster Organizing at Federal Express

Mark's quote reads:

"The Strike Inspired Us
To Become Teamsters"

"The UPS strike gave a tremendous boost for Teamster organizing by FedEx workers like me.  It was great to see working people stand up to a billion-dollar company.
We've built a lot of support for the Teamsters among the FedEx tractor-tailer drivers, but we need more help from Teamster members to talk with the couriers and handlers.
I think the time is ripe for a major campaign to join forces for everyone's benefit.  We need a union contract desperately."

Mark Castilla, Atlanta FedEx tractor trailer driver, pictured on page 4 of the July/August 1998 national TEAMSTER magazine.

Mark, and Teamsters at other companies, celebrated the first anniversary of the victory over UPS by commenting on that strike's significance.

The blue "Teamstermobile" pictured below is the brainchild and property of Teamster organizer Terry Meadows.  He can't be everywhere at once.  But, say "hello" to Terry, "build your case," and maybe he'll visit your city with his mobile command post and park outside YOUR FedEx facility!  And Terry can certainly put you in touch with other Teamster organizers and your nearest co-workers on the Teamster Organizing Committee.

Besides first-rate staff organizers, the Teamsters Union offers a volunteer army of nearly 200,000 members at UPS and Airborne Express.  These Brothers and Sisters do the same work we do, understand our issues, and are mobilizing through the "Each One, Reach One" campaign to recruit FedEx workers throughout the nation.

Email Terry Meadows at:   LaborUnite@aol.com

Report to Terry:

  • safety & American Disability Act violations

  • subcontracting practices in your area

  • unfair firings & discriminatory practices

  • organizing issues & Union sentiment at your location

Nearly 200,000 Teamsters at UPS and Airborne Express perform the same work we do at Federal Express.  And because of their Union, they enjoy superior pay, pension, benefits, and rights on the job.

Visit the official Teamster Union website's
"Each One, Reach One"
section for more details on how Teamster members are encouraged to "talk it up" with FedEx workers.

Teamster members sent the following Emails.  Letter # 1 was written by a UPS worker;  # 2 was penned by an Airborne Express employee.  These are the kind of good people who are being mobilized by the Teamster Union's "Each One, Reach One" volunteer organizing program.

May God bless you in your attempts to form a unionized Fed Ex! I am a union member at UPS. Have been employed for nearly 8 years, 2 as a driver.
Believe me, the union has performed immeasurable tasks for the teamsters. From what I have read at your various sites, going union sounds like the answer.
In the next decade, the services industry is going to experience a big boom according to industry studies. Now more than ever the teamsters have to keep tight controls on the shipping giant. We have the highest-paid drivers in the industry, and this is due only to the fact that we are union. Fed ex still has plenty of room to grow, and the workers there should be rewarded handsomely for their efforts they put forth to expand the company.
Good luck with your endeavor, and please don't give up! I'm sure my brothers at my union local would sympathize as much as I.
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO A PROPER WORK ENVIRONMENT!
        Yours truly,
                        John..... >>

Good afternoon Brother Bob. It just so happens that after I read your Email concerning the AirBorne courier on a hunger strike to unionize the ABX outfit in Ohio,  I went into work today and a petition was being past out to all the drivers in support of Dan Lamb. Gotta go cause I'm on lunch right now and it's almost up. Just wanted to let you know that we support Dan Lamb and all FedEx Drivers nationwide. >>

Thank you, Brothers!  It's obvious that your Union makes you strong!
