about safety issues arising from intensive night-time scheduling and customers' undeclared dangerous goods. Pilots want a guarantee against the subcontracting away of their work to other companies. And FPA members want a real voice on the job: a legally binding Union contract that covers all those concerns in a satisfactory manner.
Because that Union contract will be the very first at Federal Express, our Brother & Sister pilots are fighting not only for themselves, but for the future of every FedEx worker. An FPA contract will shatter Fred Smith's aura of anti-union invincibility, and prove that a workforce which sticks together can significantly improve its future through unionization. Our pilots are making FedEx history!
The pilots' basic concerns run parallel to those of we FedEx ground workers: couriers, tractor trailer drivers, aircraft and vehicle mechanics, customer service agents & reps, handlers, and all the rest. We too are underpaid compared to our unionized peers at UPS. We too face unsafe speed-up and ever-changing scheduling demands. We too wonder if we'll ever make it to retirement, and worry how our family will survive on a second-rate pension. We too have no genuine grievance procedure or real voice on the job.
The days of a personalized "mom & pop" Federal Express went by the wayside many years ago. FedEx is undeniably a huge, multinational corporation, existing only to funnel money into the pockets of wealthy stockholders. It is a "people company" in myth only. By continuing to foster an anti-union "plantation mentality," where employees are expected to meekly accept their lowly "lot in life" as solely determined by Memphis, management is only setting itself up for disaster.
The pressure is steadily building throughout the Federal Express workforce, and like a volcano, it has the potential to blow sky-high. Our pilots have courageously stepped forward into the spotlight and said, "ENOUGH!"
SUPPORT OUR PILOTS!
FPA's VICTORY WILL BE OUR VICTORY, TOO!
SHOW US THE WAY, FPA!
