Dr. Andrew S. Bloom's Web Page!
This is Dr. Andrew S. Bloom, DVM, MS, owner of Bovine
Health Services, Windthorst, Texas. For those not familiar with Texas, Windthorst
is a community of 500+ with 60+ medium to large family owned dairy herds
about 25 miles south of Wichita Falls on Hwy 281. This community has
been producing quality milk for over 106 years!
Dr. Bloom graduated
from Texas A&M University in 1983 with a degree in Animal Science. He
continued to receive a Dairy Science degree the following year. Before
beginning a career as a Dairy Veterinarian, he was a herdsman on a Guernsey
Dairy Farm in Texas, and managed a moderate sized dairy herd in East Texas
for Robert Winn, DVM. Before entering veterinary school, Dr. Bloom
receive another degree, Masters in Dairy Science under the supervision of
Dr. Michael Tomaszewski, Texas Dairy Extension Specialist, Texas Dairy Herd
Improvement Association. Here, Andy was active in computerization of
records, and breeding decision analysis using quadratic programming methods.
He also worked with DHIA's database creation, and DHIA supervisors.
It's amazing how far computers have evolved since those days of the
'fast' 8088 PC.
After
graduation from veterinary school, Texas A&M University, in 1993, Dr.
Bloom began his work with dairy cattle in the southern San Joaquin Valley
of California. In Bakersfield, CA, he as an associate veterinarian
in a 2 and 3 man practice that served dairy clientele. After a short
associate position in Texas, Dr. Bloom has owned his own practice since 1996
in the Windthorst area. He provides comprehensive cattle services, milk
laboratory, drugs and supplies.
