Is Michael going to knock Bertha flat for telling him Irish dancing is for the birds? "It's for this bird," says Bertha.
When Big Bertha Warbird saw LORD OF THE DANCE for the first time, she watched it with an intensity often called "the hairy eyeball" by budgie owners. Her beady eyes focused on the screen, and when Michael Flatley burst forth in all his glory, her little feet began to move on the perch. She watched, she practiced, and thus was born Bertha's version of Australian stepdancing!
Bertha is a fan of Riverdance, too, and does her own interpretation of Tarik Winston's backflip from "Trading Taps". She calls her version a "flipjig".
Bertha's infatuation with LOTD has inspired her budgie friends to take up perchdancing themselves. Lacey Spangle has become quite interested in Maria Pages and works hard to master the Flamenco moves.
Bert pursues her own career as a world class perch-dancer.
She spends hours dancing in front of her mirror just
to get her form right. Here she is after taking
Senior Hen's at the Worlds. She flipped them out with
her flipjig, and everyone went wild over her set dance,
"Queen of the Budgies". LINKS:
