We would like to introduce to you the
BRIDGEPORT ART LEAGUE
...

It may surprise you to learn that the BRIDGEPORT ART LEAGUE has been in existence since 1895, making it 113 years old this 2007-2008 Season! It was organized in 1895 as the Bridgeport League of Keramic Art. However, because of an increased membership and, therefore, development of interest in other arts, the name was changed to the BRIDGEPORT ART LEAGUE on June 1, 1903, and remains the same today.

The League is a much more regional organization now than when it was first organized in Bridgeport 113 years ago. Now its members come not only from Bridgeport, but from various cities and towns in the surrounding areas, presently as far away as Old Saybrook.

Our Constitution states: "The purpose of the BRIDGEPORT ART LEAGUE shall be the promotion of Art study and Art Appreciation among the membership, and the sponsoring of art exhibitions...". The League continues to be dedicated to this purpose through special programs presented at its monthly meetings, sponsored classes and trips, and a members' annual art exhibit.

Meetings are held at 11:45 a.m. on the third Monday of each month, from September through June, at the Parish Center of St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 25 Church Street in Huntington, across from the Green. Our meetings are luncheons, followed by lectures, demonstrations, or workshops. The December and June meetings are restaurant outings.

Classes are offered to members in the Fall and Spring of each year, for 8 weeks each season. They may include porcelain painting, decorative painting, oil painting, watercolor painting, drawing, and needlework. Classes are open to members at all skill levels, and are taught by professional artists and craftspeople.

Each year, the League sponsors an exhibit of its members' artistic accomplishments, which may include any of the above mentioned fields. For the past few years, this exhibit has been held at the Milford Public Library where it may be viewed by the general public for weeks.

In the spirit of friendship and a shared interest in the visual arts, we cordially invite you to join us.
Come have lunch with us, get to know us, and learn more about the
BRIDGEPORT ART LEAGUE.
