Last Month, in June, 1997, I entered my 8th year as a brain tumor survivor. ( Brain Stem Glioma/Astrocytoma ) Many professionals can safely say that I have significantly beat the "statistics". My only explaination of this wonderful gift of time is that I have approached this disease with a "one- two punch" trying not to fold under at times from sheer exhaustion from this constant fight and always trying to beat it at it's own game- There have been several times when admittingly I desparetly wanted to surrender, but through the strength of my family, I tried my best to battle as hard as the " beast" was battleing me. Education is also extremely important- after all, if you don't know your enemy, how can you begin to fight it? I have attended the SFBTA support groups regulary, even during treatments attending support groups consistantl and found courage from my "family" ,the SFBTA members-Whom " Webster " should define as "heros." They can always be counted on to give myself and others the encouragement and hope that is needed to win.
When I travel to the various conferences, and see
the graphs of stats that the Docs display on the screen in all the different colors, I have realized that is the only way they can gather their data . but it is ( usually outdated ) based on masses of people, I am an individual- and so are you. Obviously, I am STILL here to tell you that people do fall in-between those graph lines all the time. Now I just look at those graphs and smile.
