Clifton Camera Club

Competition Rules

All Clifton Camera Club competitions are judged by professional and amateur fine-art photographers, whom we pay to critique our work. Unless we specify, you can enter any subject matter. Anyone who has paid his/her club dues is eligible to compete. Individual membership for the 2005-2006 season is $35, and family membership is $40. Participants are allowed to enter four images in each category: black and white prints, color prints, digital prints, and slides. We're too small a club to have advanced and beginner categories.

Digital Images

  1. Digital images must be printed by the photographer.
  2. Every digital print must be mounted and at least 5" x 7" and no larger than 16" x 20".
  3. Frames and glass mounts are not allowed in competition.
  4. The back of each image should have the following information: photographer's name, picture title, and date of competition.

Monochrome and Color Prints

  1. Prints don't have to be hand-printed by the photographer, though almost all of our members create their own black and white prints. We do not have separate categories for machine-made and photographer-made prints.
  2. Every print must be mounted and at least 5" x 7" and no larger than 16" x 20".
  3. Frames and glass mounts are not allowed in competition.
  4. The back of each print should have the following information: photographer's name, picture title, and date of competition.

Slides

  1. Every slide must be properly spotted (so the projectionist knows which end is up).
  2. Slide mounts must contain the photographer's name and slide title.
  3. Slide participants must also fill out a slip of paper with the photographer's name, slide title, and date of competition.

Judging

  1. Judges are selected by the officers of the Clifton Camera Club. The judges are paid to critique and score each image.
  2. The judge selects from each image category a slide/print of the month, high honors (second place), and honorable mentions as he/she sees fit.
  3. All judges are subject to change.
  4. In the event that a judge doesn't show up, the CCC president may either appoint a judge from the membership or judge the competition him/herself.
  5. All entries must be submitted before the competition begins.

Scoring

  1. All images are given a score from 1 (worst) to 9 (best).
  2. Images that are chosen print/slide of the month receive 5 extra points and will be put on the club's Internet site.
  3. The club has the final say in Internet submissions.
  4. High honors (our version of second place) images get 4 extra points.
  5. Honorable mention images receive 3 extra points.
  6. The statistician records the scores.
  7. The highest scoring participant in each category (slides, B/W prints, and color prints) wins a prize at our end-of-the-year banquet.
  8. All prints and slides that win print/slide of the month, high honors, and honorable mention are eligible for our best-of-the-year competition.
  9. Any image that has won a CCC competition is not eligible for future club competitions.

Sad Face If You Miss a Competition

  1. You may submit your slides or prints at the next meeting for a score only.
  2. These "make-up"  prints or slides are not eligible for awards.
  3. These images will be judged at the end of the competition.
