My name is Jim Barr. I am 29 years old and I started at the Newton Chung Moo Doe school 1 year ago. I have always been interested in physical fitness and had played sports in High School and College. But when school was over there were no more sports that would keep me active and challenged. For many years I had an erratic workout schedule in which I would work out for a few months and then stop. I became bored and lethargic about staying on a strict schedule. I wanted to continue to work out and better myself, but I wanted more than just the standard weight lifting and running. I was lacking a real physical and mental challenge that organized sports offered. I was motivated to find out more about an alternative way of working out by watching a television show on PBS called "The Healing Mind" with Bill Moyer.
In this series of shows there was one that highlighted the mental and physical benefits of Tai Chi. The show displayed the many people who practice this on a daily basis and have benefited for many centuries. I found this fascinating and thought that this may have been what I was looking for; to develop my mind as well as my body. When I learned that this was the fundamental idea behind Chung Moo Doe I joined.
As I began to train I learned more and more about my abilities and my weaknesses. Previous to Chung Moo Doe I thought that I had built a decent amount of strength, flexibility. and endurance in my body. I quickly learned that I was not as strong and physically balanced as I thought I was. In addition, I always considered myself to be strong mentally. but again Chung Moo Doe has shown me that I could improve and become much stronger. As a result of following the Chung Moo Doe training and philosophy I have benefited my mind and body as well as improving the quality of my life.
Mentally: I have been able to change the way I look at things in business as well as everyday life.
My job does not seem to be as stressful as it was before I began training. I have become a more patient
person and a better listener, which has become extremely beneficial to me as a sales representative. It has
also unlocked a door in my mind that allows to believe that anything that I set mind to do is possible and
will not be limited by my physical body.
Physically: I feel much healthier than I did prior to training. I feel I have more energy and find I need less sleep and as a result can be more productive in my daily life. My flexibility and strength in my body has also increased tremendously.
Chung Moo Doe has given me the tools to better myself by challenging me mentally and physically. I recognize the fact that life has a time line and that we have some control over the quality of that life and maybe the time as well. My goal is to make the most of my life by bettering my mind and body. so that I will be able to achieve the many personal and career goals that I have set for myself and improve the quality and length of my life. With the help of Chung Moo Doe I hope to achieve this goal.
