Purpose and Objectives of Primary
"Suffer and little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14). The purpose of Primary is to teach children the gospel of Jesus Christ and help them learn to live. The objectives of Primary are to:
1. Teach children that they are children of God and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love them.
2. Help children to learn to love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
3. Help children prepare to be baptized, to receive the Holy Ghost, and to keep their baptismal covenants.
4. Help children grow in their understanding of the gospel plan and provide opportunities for them to live the gospel principles.
5. Help boys prepare to receive the priesthood and be worthy to use this power to bless and serve others.
6. Help girls prepare to be righteous young women, understand the blessings of the priesthood and the temple, and serve others.
Primary Theme
The Primary Theme is "All thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children" (3 Nephi 22:13)

For Sharing Time or Singing Time, I would take a picture and paste onto a poster board and then would cut it up into puzzle pieces with either scriptures, songs, or questions on it. They would read, sing or answer then they turn the piece over and would make the picture.

I took construction paper and would make a life size game board. I would place it on the floor and then use a child from each class to be their class marker. Each class would have a turn rolling the paper dice I made and then they would move that many steps forward on the game piece. Then they would have to do what was on the game piece, sing, answer question, etc. There were pieces that missed turn because of disobeying gospel principle or sent to start.

We did journals one year in Primary. Every fast Sunday for Sharing time we did a journal page. The teachers also did some journal pages in their classes. We would collect the journal page each month and would put them into their journals. At the end of the year they were able to have a full year of themes that they had done in Primary!

Primary Music
When I served as Music director, I would get the children to help lead the songs to get them to sing louder. I would draw up a monkey or an elephant and put a hole at the tale or nose and insert a brown knee high for the monkey's tail or a colored knee high for the elephant's trunk. The Children would put their arm in the tail or trunk to lead music. They loved to lead other doing that!

Primary Fued
I made up a Primary Fued game with question that they completed with fill in the missing word of a song. (This way they had to know all the words) I had two children come up at once (one from each team) --[which were the notes and the rest] I'd put my hands out and then state the fill in the blank question. The first one to hit my hand and answer correctly their team earned a note or rest on their music staff. Then that team could earn a bonus note or rest by singing the song.

Primary Crown
I made a Primary Crown up and what ever class sang the best their teacher had to wear the Primary Crown until another class was found singing better. The kids loved it and the teachers hated having to wear this crown so the kids sang their hearts out!

Starting Singing Time out with a scripture was a super way to bring the spirit in! Sometimes I'd have a child come up and read it and have them guess what we were going to focus on for Singing Time!

Fishing
I've used this for sharing or singing time. I bring out the license that was issued to our ward for that day to permit us to fish. Then I'd make sure I had my fishing equipment on (vest, hat) and I had a fishing pole with a magnet on the end and I'd have questions for sharing time or songs for singing time. Then had a barometer to rate their songs.

Ball Games
I made up a baseball game. It was the children vs. the teachers. The children were the angels and the teachers the devils. Anyway, the children had to draw out their question or song and then draw out whether they got a single, double, triple, homerun or out. As the children tried to sing or answer the questions the teachers tried to get the kids to say the wrong answer or not to sing. Thus getting the point across that satan doesn't want you to do what's right. But the kids were having fun scoring on the baseball field and suddenly realized what the real point was!

Nursery Ideas
I did a lesson with teaching the children how Jesus fed the multitude. Then I took a piece of bread and some tuna fish and spread it over the bread. I broke up the sandwich for all to eat. After we finished we did a coloring page of Jesus. Then I had a pole with a string and a magnet at the end of the string. They fished in a bowl with fish with paperclips at their nose.

NOAH'S ARK
We gave the story to the children about Noah's Ark. After making a paper ship inwhich we cut out animals to go into it. We had made an ark out of boxes for the kids to play in. We served animal crackers for treats.

EIEIO
I made a little bag inwhich I had put the cute farm animals that I had put contact paper over in. As we would sing "Old McDonald had a farm, each child took turns to pull an animal out of the bag to see what we would sing about next.

Bull Fight
As we taught the children about taking turns we would take a small towel out and have the children line up. One leader would hold out the small towel like a bull fighter. The other leader would have the children one at a time put their hand up to look like bull horns on their heads and run through the towel. The children loved learning to take turns this way!
