SHUT UP AND DANCE - the movie!

As you may know, I ventured off to Van Nuys, CA this summer to be an extra in the upcoming ballroom dance movie "Dance With Me" (working title: "Shut Up and Dance"), starring Vanessa Williams, Chayenne, Kris Kristofferson, Joan Plowright, and 40 professional dancers. Among these professional dancers were some of the best the East Coast has to offer & of course, I rooted for them! My All-Star East Coast Team included Canadian Ten-Dance champs Jean-Marc Genereux and France Mousseau, US International Latin Champs, Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin, and the woman I consider the Queen of New York Hustle, Maria Torres. Over the past few years, I've had the pleasure of taking classes (group & private) with all of them and it was easy to cheer for them authentically during the filming of the ballroom dance competition sequence.

Here they all are lined up for the awards in the Latin Finals. When the film comes out in February watch for me sticking my head through the crowd yelling "Yeah, TONY!!" and "Yeah, JEAN-MARC!!" What can I say? They are my coaches!!! When Producer Lauren Weissman introduced me to Vanessa Williams, I had to tell her I admired her Cha-Cha, but had to cheer for the home teams! Vanessa signed my shoe bag, anyway!

I met some of the nicest folk - extras and dancers - and all around had a great time! More on this whole adventure in my upcoming story for Dancing USA magazine.

P.S. I met all my Internet / AOL dance buddies from the Ballroom Mail List, too, like ProDnzr (Enio Cordoba) who I introduced myself to as "Sue of Many Partners" - didn't realize he'd know me by that for sure! He did. I believe Waltz123 (Jon Atkinson) was in the "final round" of the Smooth. Life is so much fun once you are "on-line"!
