New Bands attacking Ravens Bluff!

By Jacinth Moonspring (A RB Trumpeter Article, Vol. 2 - Issue 9)

(8/98) RAVEN'S BLUFF -- Dear Readers, the tragic and sudden death of "The Cobalt Flame" was expected to herald a lull in the musical theatre within Ravens Bluff. Fortunately, the musical talent of one previously unknown group... has assumed the forefront of the musical production stage.

Contrasting anything previously seen in Raven's Bluff, this unusual new group was recently discovered by the bard's guild, calling themselves: "The Burning Truth." This visceral all-percussion ensemble caught the attention of the presentation audience with their religious chanting, heavy drum pyrotechnic show (ostensibly designed with the safety of both the band members and the audience in mind). The group consists of:

Aranwe Nauril of Aglarond -- lead + percussion
Jennith Maelstrom -- chanting + percussion
Javert "the Hammer" Lorrell -- chanting + percussion
Demonius Othello Tiburian Lethario III -- Kara-turan war gong + fire expert + religious advisor
Gnorris "the Gnome" Kneebreaker -- percussion + pyrotechnics
Dirtbeard "the Dwarf" -- koto drums

In an interesting bit of showmanship, Gnorris the Gnome is actually sealed into the large bass drum and plays it from within. We tried to ask him if it was loud inside the drum but he must not have heard us.

Although the pyrotechnics are breath-taking and the music already is surprisingly good, the group is reportedly considering adding another singer; and, if you want my opinion, which you obviously do since so many of my loyal readers thank me daily, they need a another singer. No announcements have yet been made as to who that might be.

Additionally, there is a situation brewing with the group. It appears as if an anonymous source has informed the Clerical Circle that the group's presentations represent "worship" to Kossuth, the God of Elemental Fire. The Clerical Circle has not made any announcements, but if you want Jackie's opinion, all priests of Milil sing in pray, but they are not so limited; I suppose a priest of Kossuth playing with fire may also just be religious, however, to the majority of the audience the show was just that, a show.

UPDATE!!!: Clan Shado Standoff Ends, DeMarcos Disgraced

(11/97) RAVENS BLUFF -- Only three hours after a group of angry city watchmen and Knights of the Phoenix surrounded the Clan Shado compound in the merchant district, Kima Greyleaf, Leader for Life of the organization, diffused tensions by allowing the hostile force to tour the complex. The mob, led by Realarn Dayspring, high priest of Lathander, had gathered to protest the alleged harboring of Sarah DeMarcos, a demon.

The city's forces were unable to find a single clue of these charges, and Dayspring called off the action shortly thereafter. The group had been led to the compound by Margrave Darkwalker, a magepriest of Mystra and member of Clan Shado. Darkwalker had attempted to lead the group into the tower, but found himself barred from entry. The man was said by many to be incredulous following the incident. As the knights and watch made their way from the tower, Darkwalker pleaded with them to locate and take action against the demon, if not Clan Shado itself.

"I have to thank Margrave Darkwalker for standing up to his friends," said a visibly disappointed Dayspring, "but the truth is there's no proof to his claims. Personally, I believe him, but until we can find Sarah DeMarcos, and we will find her, there's nothing I can do."

Darkwalker quit the organization in disgust, claiming that at one time Clan Shado housed no fewer than three demons. "There seems to be an unholy fetish for demon flesh in Clan Shado," said Darkwalker, who is currently squiring to a knightly order. "That and other issues have led me to believe that it would be best if we parted company."

Greyleaf released an official statement on the matter. "It is unfortunate that Margrave has decided to sever his ties with Clan Shado. I have for many years considered him a great friend and ally, and wish to let him know that he will always be welcome in our tower."

Greyleaf declined to answer the priest's claims of demons, calling them "completely ridiculous and without foundation in fact."

Leland DeMarcos was charged $5,000 gold pieces for harboring an unlicensed monster, and warned of more serious repercussions should further proof be discovered.

UPDATE!!!: Local Fashion Plate Harbors Demon Wife

(11/97) RAVENS BLUFF -- Four squads of city watch members and a detachment of Knights of the Phoenix, led by High Prelate Realarn Dayspring himself, today stand guard outside the tower complex of Clan Shado, a powerful adventuring company headquartered in the merchant district. The mob gathered shortly after reports that Sarah DeMarcos, the thief who narrowly escaped capture at the temple of Lliira two nights ago, was inside, protected by her husband, Leland, and his Clan Shado compatriots. Added urgency came with the report, by none other than Shado member Margrave Darkwalker, that Sarah is in fact a demon from the pits of the Abyss.

Darkwalker [played by Hans Nelson] led authorities to Clan Shado's tower, informing them that Sarah DeMarcos had used her alu-fiend powers to ruin the celebration at the temple of Lliira, during which she attacked Chief Constable Rolf Sunriver.

"Leland DeMarcos is my friend," claimed a clearly conflicted Darkwalker, "but I cannot in good conscience remain silent anymore. He has been married to Sarah, a fiend, for six months now, and each time she has stolen, cheated or broken something, Clan Shado has attempted to cover it up."

DeMarcos and Darkwalker were seen together at the gala in the company of Clarissa, a musician of some repute [played by Lanica Klein], Kalib of Muamman Duathal [played by Brian Fedenko] and Kazim, "the Viper" [played by Lars Granrud]. All save Clarissa are members of Clan Shado, and are believed to be camped out in the well-protected tower.

Calvin Longbottle, who had been working with the group at the time of the incident, remains optimistic. "Leland and the rest of the Clan members involved were at the party at my behest, so of course I feel somewhat responsible. Still, I'm sure there are more to these charges than it seems. I'm content to trust Leland."

Longbottle, the leader of the Knights of the Golden Rooster, later explained that his trust does not extend to all participants in the matter. He specifically singled-out the druid, Kazim. "He doesn't call himself 'the Viper' for nothing. Earlier that day, he told me that he had made it his life quest to make a mockery of the city's knights."

The watchmen and Phoenix Knights have pledged to remain outside the compound indefinitely, until they are allowed to abjure Sarah DeMarcos, and bring her husband up on official charges of harboring an unlicensed monster.

Scuffle at Lliiran Temple Sparks Citywide Womanhunt

(11/97) RAVENS BLUFF -- The gaiety of a costume ball at the Temple of Lliira was sullied yesterday, when Lord Constable Rolf Sunriver attempted to apprehend a woman he caught in the act of stealing from the temple's offering box. Sunriver ordered the woman, identified as Sarah DeMarcos, under arrest on the spot. This elicited a fierce attack from the thief, who was costumed as an angel.

DeMarcos earlier had been spotted dancing with her husband, the swashbuckler-mage Leland DeMarcos [played by Weston Peterson], who was costumed as a ghost. The couple impressed the crowded party by dancing a waltz while flying ten feet above the temple floor.

"They were such a charming pair," said the high priestess of Lliira. "The woman's gown was skillfully cut, and her feathery wings were among the most convincing accoutrements at the ball."

The organizer of the night's festivities, was forced to end the party prematurely, as many of the adventurers present at the ball scoured the temple and surrounding streets for clues as to the whereabouts of the woman and her husband.

The masquerade was a benefit celebration for the Knights of the Golden Rooster, and was presided over by Calvin Longbottle, leader of that order. An orcish thief was also apprehended at the ball, though authorities claim there is no connection with the DeMarcos affair.

Clan Member Retires From Adventuring

Lord "Barek" Brute Bane -- a recent addition to Clan Shado (though an avid adventurer and protector of the city of Raven's Bluff ) -- recently announced his retirement from adventuring. When questioned why he was giving up the life of an adventurerer he looked to his left and pulled a beautiful young women to his side.

" Brute not need to be out and make Miranda worry anymore, Oh true she still worry , cause me still do things for City that not safe. Me still will be a Knight of The Griffon and now me patrol on Griffon flying over city from time to time, actually me patrol now includes the docks since me am member of Harbor Patrol for watch also, and temple of Torm has asked as well as new Guild called Adventure's that me train people so they be prepared when they go out to fight evil. Brute tell truth , all the gold and gems and magic I find not equal what I have here"

( at this point the Lord Brute pulled the woman this reporter assumes is the Lady Miranda close, giving her a loving squeeze.)

"She the greatest treasure I know of and me wish to stay close to her.. and raise family"  (slight blush from Lord Brute). "So me tell Miranda I want to give up adventuring. She think a good idea and very happy for me. In fact recently me bought a house with ability to sell things there also so business starting soon. What? Brute no sure but have a partner named Larkin ( Played by Rod Ehrman of Columbus/ Ohio ) and he help to design and run business with Brute. Also Brute gave Larkin great item since Larkin still fight and adventure. Brute gave him me Bracers..... so still a part of Brute out there fighting evil in a way....."

With that said Brute turned with his new bride and headed off into the city.  You heard it here first, folks -- his life as of adventurer is now behind him... But considering his many civic posts and the statement about continuing to work inside the city, I am sure we have not seen the last of Lord Brute.
