Who are the churches of
Christ?
The Church of Christ - San Mateo is located (adjustable map) just south of the San Francisco Airport, in the city of San Mateo. Going south on highway 101 from San Francisco, you take the Third Avenue exit going east, which puts you on the overpass. Take a right at the first light, which is S.Norfolk, then turn right at the next (first) street, which is Beacon Avenue. Continue on Beacon as it snakes around and turns into South Bayshore Blvd., which is the frontage road. The building is immediately on the left as you come onto South Bayshore.

If you are coming from the south the directions are the same except that you will take the Third Avenue exit going east, but will not have to go on an overpass. The exit will keep you in the far right lane, and deliver you right to S. Norfolk, from which you continue with the same directions as above. Welcome to San Mateo!

The congregation believes and teaches that the Bible is the inspired,
inerrant word of God, and that the Bible is the final authority in all matters. It is
the point of reference and the standard by which we live our lives. We see our obligation
as Christians to fill the earth with "the knowledge of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:9),
to "preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16). Obedience to the gospel is
necessary for salvation, and we will "contend for the faith" (Jude 3) against
efforts to dilute, compromise, or otherwise change the body of Christ from that which is
presented in the scriptures.
The Bible teaches that one becomes a member of the Lord's body through obedience
to the gospel command of baptism
for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38-47). Baptism is complete
immersion in water (John 3, Acts 2, Acts 8:36), as the Greek word "baptizo"
literally means "to dip, to immerse". The Bible makes this act clear in
Romans 6:3-5, where the apostle Paul speaks of baptism as a burial and resurrection.
The church is the body of believers spoken of in Ephesians 1:22-23, and Colossians
1:18, of which Christ is the head. Those who are it's members are the members of the one
body spoken of in Ephesians 2:16, 4:4,5. We believe and embrace this teaching strongly.
The Bible teaches that those who are the members of the one body are the members
of the only church
for which Christ died (Matthew 16), and adhere to no creed other than the
belief that Jesus Christ is the only-begotten Son of God.
How does one become a
Christian, a member of the Lord's body, the church for which Christ died?
One must hear the gospel (Romans 10:14).
One must believe that which is heard (Hebrews 11:6).
One must repent of past sins (Acts 17:30).
One must confess Jesus as Lord, as the Son of God (Acts 8:36-37).
One must be baptized for the remission of sin (Acts 2:38).
After this one is added by the Lord to the church with the command to continue to
live a good Christian life (1 Peter 2:9).
The church in San Mateo is involved in local evangelism, and teaching private
Bible classes in the community. We also offer correspondence courses.
