WIMINFEST 2001 CELEBRATES WOMEN'S CULTURE AND WOMEN IN MOVEMENT IN NEW MEXICO's 20th ANNIVERSARY
WIMINFEST is a three-day festival of women's music, comedy, and culture. The festival will take place Labor Day Weekend, August 31, Sept. 1-2, 2001 at the KiMo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. The festival, which started in 1984, is produced by Women in Movement in NewMexico (WIMIN), an all-volunteer feminist production company founded in 1981. Concerts will feature sanguine singer-songwriter formally of Disappear Fear SONiA; Awaken your soul with Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir; Tender comedic performance from our very own Echo; Be inspired by the powerful reggae group, JUCA; Funkadelic rock roll superstars, Sister Funk; Listen to the firestorm, feminist slam poet Alix Olson; Electrifying performance artist Carmelita Tropicana; Simply inspirational vocalist, Lucie Blue Tremblay; and WIMINFEST's favorite emcee, Havens. Other events include the Arts and Crafts Fair, nightly dances, Fun in the Sun, Open Mike, and networking meetings. Most events will be sign language interpreted. Festival passes are $85, $75, and $50. Individual concert tickets are $18 and $25. Tickets are available at Sisters' and Brothers' Bookstore, 4011 Silver SE, and through the mail.
