Below is the text of an affidavit from Wm. B. Eagar M.D. the Regimental Surgeon of the 162nd on the pension Claim of Lt John W. Haggerty
County of Orange State of New York }S.S.
Wm. B. Eager M.D. a resident of Middletown Said County and State deposes and says as follows; That he was formally surgeon of the 162 Reg't N.Y.Vol's. and that he well remembers Lieut. John W. Haggerty of Comp. K said Reg. He further deposes and says that at about the close, or soon after the close of the siege of Port Hudson Louisiana said Lieut. John W. Haggerty was attacked while in the line of his duty, with sciatica of both the right and left side; for which he was treated by deponent until the opportunity afforded for sending him to General Hospital at New Orleans which was done.
Deponent further say that this occurred sometime during the month of July 1863 but he is unable more definitely to fix the date because of the loss in transportation of his diary of daily events for that period.
Deponent further say that because of failing eyesight the body of this affidavit is the handwriting of an (unreadable) the signature being his.
Deponent further says that he has no pecursiary interest whatever in the application of said Lt. John W. Haggerty for pension. Deponent further says that by reason of the demise of his father Wm.B. Eager he no longer uses the word Junior.
