Blast 98!
Blast 98 was mind boggling, to say the least. On this picture perfect autumn day, 27 Owners brought 24 cars and at least 15 navigators to compete for over $800 in prizes. 1 from Florida; 15 from MD, 5 from PA, 6 from VA combined for 6 MK Is and 19 MK IIs with 16 NA engines, and 8 Turbos. There was a bunch of colors, including 8 Black, 1 Blue, 2 Champagne, 5 Red, 1 Teal, 6 White and 1Yellow. 3 new members were added to the DC IMOC register. Donations to 2nd Chance were $114 at registration, and $35.25 from the auctioning off of 4 IMOC stickers and 2 MK I Matchboxes, for a total of $149.25 going from participants at Blast 98 in memory of JoeP. Aside from getting split up, the day went splendidly.
Award Winners, determined by majority vote of owners present, are as follows: Best MK I - Dale Conner, Laurel, MD; Best MK II; Mike King, Pensacola FL; Best Stereo - Mike Tomasello, Annapolis, MD; JoeP Memorial Certificate - Jim Lutz, Westminster, MD. For winning Best of MK I and MK II, Dale and Mike received one pair each of PaintBall Certificates, provided by Outdoor Adventures Paintball, value $252.

In particular, Special Thanks to Jim Lutz for being the Communications Specialist and helping herd the scattered chickens back into formation with his CB, and finding us such a fun place to munch. Thanks Mike Tomasello for sacrificing running with the big dogs at the front of the pack to come back and try to lead us back in the right direction - sorry we missed them by those mere 2 minutes. Chip O'Toole, thanks for the time and effort you put into the directions, meeting place, and route - it's unfortunate that things turned out the way they did.
