"Night of Dark Shadows," Gothic horror tale of possession from beyond the grave, MGM's second feature based on the chilling ABC-TV serial-drama "Dark Shadows," stars David Selby, Grayson Hall, Lara Parker, Kate Jackson, John Karlen and Nancy Barrett, all remembered personalities of the famed network show.
"Night of Dark Shadows" follows last year's successful thriller, "House of Dark Shadows," starring Joan Bennett.
An eerie story of a ghost that haunts the living in Collinwood, an ancient manor wherein dire bloody events occur in the creepy atmosphere of gloom and shadows. The film marks the motion picture debut of the handsome, young Selby who already is a favorite of TV fans. Miss Hall and Miss Barrett were starred in the earlier motion picture with Joan Bennett. Sam Hall has again written the original screenplay which mingles time-past malevolently with the present.
"Night of Dark Shadows," photographed at Lyndhurst, the Jay Gould mansion on the Hudson near Tarrytown, was produced and directed by Dan Curtis who created the "Dark Shadows" television series.

FILM BEGINS WITH A FUNERAL
Appropriately enough, the first day's filming on MGM's Gothic horror tale "Night of Dark Shadows" took place in a mausoleum, constructed on the grounds of the famed Lyndhurst estate near Tarrytown, N.Y. where the entire shooting of the ghostly thriller took place. And what was the first scene? A funeral, naturally. The weather, helpfully, was drizzly and cold, giving the mourner-extras an authentically woebegone air.
"Night of Dark Shadows" follows the 1970 boxoffice success of "House of Dark Shadows," both based on the famed eerie ABC-TV daily serial, "Dark Shadows," which ran for four and a half years on the airwaves. Appearing in the tale of possession beyond the grave are David Selby, Grayson Hall, Lara Parker, Kate Jackson, John Karlen and Nancy Barrett, all stars of the original television show.
"Night of Dark Shadows" was produced and directed by Dan Curtis from a screenplay by Sam Hall.
