DVA Power is a small company setup and run by Dave Andrews
undertaking engine tuning and building, it is sited in Milton Keynes. Most
popular engines are catered for but it specialises in the Rover K series engine
as fitted to the Caterham Se7en, Lotus Elise, MGF and Rover saloon cars. DVA
Power offers a number of off the shelf K series upgrade packages from 135
to 190BHP. Bespoke tuning work with a proven track record to over 280BHP
is also available at reasonable prices.
DVAPower currently holds the outright power records for K series engines at the
Emerald rolling road at 1700, 1800 and 1900cc, the DVAPower entry in the
TunerGP for 2005 won the NA class outright in both ¼ mile and circuit. In 2006
the same car was the fastest NA car on the circuit.
In addition all types of engine work are undertaken including fitting and
timing of cams and verniers, fitting of ECUs, fitting of throttle bodies and
airbox kits, fitting of proven engine upgrades, fitting of forged pistons, full
engine rebuilds and tried and tested cylinder head porting for bespoke
upgrades.
All prices shown on these pages are what you pay, there is no VAT to add
although there will be some postage and packing.

Due to increasing porosity problems with poor quality K series head
castings which have been given to me in exchange I have revised the way I offer
an exchange cylinder head service for kits which include a modified cylinder
head. Customer heads will be accepted
on a provisional basis, if after refacing they prove to have damage/porosity
issues or are insufficiently hard then a surcharge will be made and the head
will be returned to the customer.

K06a - 170BHP kit for VVC engines, gives 170BHP+
Gives a very useful power and torque increase across the range and especially
between 4500 and 7200, comprising a fully ported cylinder head, retiming of the
VVC inlet camshafts and improved exhaust camshaft together with all gaskets, oil seals and head bolts necessary to
fit. This kit retains the original VVC mechanisms and standard ECU. The head is
provided on an exchange basis. Fitting includes work to your exhaust manifold
and inlet plenum.

The VHPD engine suffers with bad cam
timing and less than optimum mapping. This kit comprises a fully programmable
Emerald M3DK ECU with suitable map and a pair of Piper verniers. This greatly
improves idle and progression together with much improved mid range torque, and
lifts the engine to a proper 190BHP

K13 - S2/S1 Elise . MGF and Caterham 155BHP kit
Includes a fully ported big valve cylinder head with larger REC inlet and
exhaust valves and new inlet guides, the head is fitted with Piper fast road
cams and Piper springs to allow later fitment of more aggressive cams if
desired. The head must be provided by the customer and as modified flows enough air for 200BHP so is ideal when
later upgrades are planned. Gives large gains in torque and much better
drivability. Works with the standard S2 ECU.
Work to the cylinder head includes extensive porting to both inlet and exhaust
ports, heavy modification to the combustion chamber , radiused valve seats and
tapered guides. The valves are stainless steel and tufftrided and fully lapped
to the seats. Inlet valve size is 29.5mm and exhaust size is 26mm. The valve
springs will accomodate all cams up to 11.5mm lift.
Recent examples have given more than 160BHP and over 140lb/ft of torque.

better drivability. Works with the standard S1 and S2 ECU.
Unlike other conversions head work includes full porting to both inlet and
exhaust ports, modification of exhaust valves to improve airflow ,tapering of
inlet valve guides and work to the combustion chamber to improve airflow and

K14 - Caterham Supersport drivability kit
The Caterham superport cams are very
rarely properly timed which gives bad road manners and poor drivability,
typically the inlet cam is retarded by up to 15 degrees which greatly reduces
low and mid range torque. This kit comprises a pair of Piper verniers which
when properly set can improve mid range torque substantially (up to 15lb/ft).
Throttle response and drivability is markedly improved.

Emerald M3D Engine Management system


The Emerald M3DK is a plug compatible replacement ECU for the
Rover MEMS unit used on the K series, it utilises the existing engine sensors
and works with distributor based systems and distributorless 'wasted spark'
systems . It is compatible with the immobiliser as fitted to Elises and
Caterhams. It is fully programmable and comes complete with software,
manual, comms cable and example maps. It has user tailorable soft and hard cut
rev-limits and a user programmable shift light.

Dynamics direct to head (DTH) throttle bodies

Jenvey now to produce dual throttle bodies which bolt directly the the 'K'
series cylinder head, the barrel spacing is the same as the port spacing on the
head so they offer perfect port alignment and also do away with the need for a
manifold. These are absolutely ideal for the engine and with a little
modification and some small brackets can take the standard fuel rail pressure
regulator and injectors. They are 42mm in size which has proved adequate for
over 250BHP. They offer the simplest, cheapest and most suitable induction
system for the 'K' series engine. They offer far better idle and progression
than some other direct to head systems due to the very short distance between
the throttle plate and the inlet port.

Shown below is a picture of a pair of the
bodies attached to a 'K' cylinder head, the only modification necessary is the
mounting of the water jacket takeoff on the front body.

Cold
airbox kit for direct to head bodies
To complement the direct to head throttle
bodies Auto-Teknix (Bernard Scouse0 have produced a complete cold airbox kit to
fit the Lotus Elise / Exige and the Caterham seven which allows retention of
the standard fuel rail and pressure regulator, or fitment of the Jenvey Fuel
rail without needing spacers. it contains everything you need including the
airbox, a throttle linkage, trumpets, backplate, trunking , large Pipercross
cone filter(Elise/Exige only) and all fixings, it works out around half the
cost of the equivalents. Below is a photograph of the Elise airbox kit fitted
to the DTH bodies, it could be adapted if necessary to fit individual TBs or
other types. The details of the kit are shown below the picture. The Caterham
version has the air pickup facing in the other direction and has mouldings to
clear the chassis member and clutch cable but is otherwise identical.

The main features
Complete kit, includes air box, air filter
(Elise/Exige version only), GRP trumpets , backplate fuel rail mounting,
throttle linkage bracket, trunking and all fixings required.
Enables the standard K series fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator and injectors
to be used without needing an external pressure regulator, which is adequate
for engines up to about 210 BHP. Can also be used with the Jenvey fuel rail
with minor modification, and does not need the 20 mm spacers.
I
n the Elise/Exige installation, ducts cold air from the wheel arch intake
directly to the engine and only intrudes 10 mm into the boot space.
The airboxes clever design allows retention of the existing fuel rail and
integral pressure regulator thereby saving the cost of a new fuel rail
(£48+VAT) and pressure regulator (£50). The throttle cable mount bracket (free
with the kit) saves the cost of a throttle linkage and mount (£103+ VAT) and
the composite trumpets supplied with the kit would be approximately £100 to buy
separately making the kit extremely good value for money.
Appearance is excellent. and it can be removed in a couple of minutes.
