If you are finishing training in the next year, or are a practicing physician considering relocating, now is the time to update your curriculum vitae. As your job search progresses, it is likely that your curriculum vitae will be faxed many times; I recommend you print it in 14-point type for clarity.
Your next step is to consider your career and personal goals--short and long term--and discuss them with your spouse or significant other.
Some things we'll discuss prior to beginning your job search--
Geographic preferences--by cities, states, regions--give us as much specific information as possible. I will make a comprehensive search of the areas you desire.
Practice preferences--depending on your specialty, you may have to consider solo/group, clinic or private practice, salaried or own the practice, etc. There are many options which I will review with you.
Income expectations. This will be determined, in part, by the geographic location and practice situation you prefer.
Spouse/Family Needs--If a spouse's career is important to your relocation decision, I need to know that. If you and/or members of your family have specific educational, recreational, religious or other needs, I will make inquiries when talking with a practice.
Reviewing Opportunities
Once I have identified prospective practices for you, I will review them in detail and arrange for you to speak with a representative from the practice. I suggest you prepare a list of questions about the practice/community and points you wish to cover about your qualifications prior to the phone call.
The Interview
I provide all the information you need to be well prepared for each interview. We will thoroughly review the itinerary and make sure that you are familiar with the names of the people you will be meeting.
Your travel expenses are covered by the organization seeking to hire you.
The Job Offer
