This is a picture of me on the morning of the ground war, at about 8 or 9 AM. We are inside Iraq, near MSR Ohio. The people lying on the ground behind me are some Iraqi soldiers being searched after being taken prisoner. Judging from the number of craters in the ground, holes in the building (which is out of sight, but to the left), and the used medical equipment lying around, these guys didn't stand a chance during the early morning attack.

This is me with a group of Saudi Arabian boys in the Northern Saudi village of Rawdat Habbas. A teacher is always drawn to the kids, even in the middle of a war! I was watching the vehicles with a partner while the other guys were in a nearby shop. When it was our turn to go in, the Saudi man inside offered to pay me "20 dollars American" to kiss him... then he kept upping the ante until he was up to "$100 American"! Makes me wonder what in the world these guys have heard about American women? (In case you were wondering, I turned him down flat!)
We had this stray dog hanging around the compound in Rafha. We called him 'Buddy'. He seemed nice enough, until the time he unexpectedly turned and snapped at one of us. That was the end of MRE & T-ration scraps for Buddy! There were a pair of puppies running around the camp as well, one black and one white. A couple of the troops wanted to adopt them and take them back to the states, but when they found out how many layers of red tape it would take (and how much it would cost), they gave up on the idea.

This is the monument that the people of Ocala, Florida constructed before we returned from the gulf. It was unveiled during the welcoming home ceremonies on April 12, 1991. In the center is the regimental crest of the Military Police Corps. The inscription reads, "IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO SERVED OUR STATE AND NATION". Beneath the inscription are the names of all the members of the unit who deployed to the Persian Gulf. Needless to say, we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support on that day!
